I disagree. The whole series has already been shown three times on ITV1, and a further two times on ITV3.

That is plenty of repeats.
It's not been repeated in primetime ITV1.

The Chase will be fine when new episodes begin. It's only on repeats at the moment which haven't been promoted for obvious reasons. Repeats are fine after a new series of a show like this has finished but running repeats on their own and not off the back of any new episodes was never going to work that well.
Will Pointless have switched to repeats (indeed will it remain in the slot?) by the time new episodes of The Chase airs. I didn't think they had that many episodes stored up.

It was the third lowest overnight rating in the Tuesday 9pm slot for ITV1 this year, so yeah it did bomb! Their Tuesday 9pm slot average this year (excluding BGT) has been 2.9m, so it was more than 30% under the slot average.

For the first primetime repeat of a drama, generally BBC1/ITV1 has to pay about 60% of the actors' royalties, which themselves equate to around a third of the cost of an episode. So a drama, such as Unforgiven, costing about £700,000 an episode would be made up of just over £200k for actors' fees, and 60% of this would equate to almost £150k. With additional costs such as music and writer fees, a repeat of something like Unforgiven probably cost ITV £150,000-200,000. At a guess, I think that would be similar, if not slightly more, than how much an episode of a 'cheap factual' as Homes From Hell costs.
Thanks rzt. I think too we remember the worst (and the best) figures when comparing ratings, but as you say third lowest isn't great - though the flip side of that might be that you'd expect the lower ratings to be in the summer anyway.

ITV's main worry now will be reclaiming Wednesday nights once the football switches again - it used to be one of ITV's strongest and one of the BBC's weakest, but for the BBC it is probably now one of their strongest nights.
The Channel 4 continuity announcer introducing Twilight -

If Channel 4 are really so convinced that Big Brother is a spent force, why are they so bothered by it?
I wouldn't take it too seriously - just an off the cuff quip being blown out of proportion. I notice though the press releases about them outperforming last year with a BB free schedule seem to have stopped.

That's the problem - Unreported World is great at telling me things I don't know. A more accessible version on BBC1/ITV could do decently (and be fantastic PSB).
Fantastic PSB and decent ratings rarely go hand in hand. There is nothing to suggest they'd perform better than Panorama and Tonight - and as we've seen with them often the more serious and challenging the subject matter, the more viewers tune out. They'd also be more expensive too.

You were spot on Pizza . There's been an amendment to the schedules, meaning TXF's second episode is 75 minutes long from 8pm and Will Young's show therefore begins at 9.15pm. BBC1's schedule remains the same as above.

I thought that 10pm News looked a bit suspect.

They'll be ok on Wednesday's - Coronation Street'll prop up the early evening schedule and they'll probably continue with the two hour dramas at 8pm. Tuesday will continue to be filler around the football.

I do like The Jonathan Ross Show promo, it should do well for ITV1 with an X Factor lead in. I imagine they'll alternate with Pier Morgan should the first series do well.

Big Brother tomorrow should be interesting and I imagine Channel 5 are hoping they can pull it off, I think CBB is a testbed for the normal BB and any kinks can be sorted out before the main run. I do wonder if Brian isn't popular with viewers will they wait to replace him in January or replace him when normal BB starts.

BBC One
19:30 - EastEnders: 7.60m (36.7%)
20:00 - Holby City: 5.19m (23.6%)
21:00 - DIY SOS: 5.67m (24.29%)
* series high
* series average: 5.51m (23.42%)

That is a really solid line-up for BBC1. I like watching the occasional DIY SOS but its not a weekly show for me personally and I’m slightly surprised it is peaking at 6.5m.

As for tonight, well it is the one of the most interesting ratings nights of the year with Celeb Big Brother launching. Having seen my local BBC forecast it is going to be cold and wet, so I’m sure C5 will be happy. I reckon it will come in around 4m overnight average and probably win the slot. Very difficult to predict though and it is possible it could come in a good bit higher or lower than that. Given that the C5 10pm slot average is only around 1m though, once BB settles down it will surely be a huge boost to the channel even if it isn't doing amazing ratings.

Saw a huge billboard for CBB in Whitley Bay, looks like Channel 5 are going all out with promoting the show. I reckon 3.5 million for the launch and an average of 2.7 million for the series. Most of the loyalists from the Channel 4 era will transfer over. Also 2.7 million is double what ITV1 has been getting for Show Me The Funny.

Lewis a bit lower than normal. It will be interesting to see how Bayern Munich v FC Zurich did on ITV4 from 7.30-10pm.

I did think that OKTV might have been slightly higher. I guess its just a sort of programme that viewers won't watch.

OKTV hasn't been trailed as being part of BB, only OKTV viewers will actually know about the switch and there aren't many of them to begin with. It isn't even a remote indicator.

Channel 4 made a bad decision by putting Twilight midweek. It isn't the power house they expected and if the BB launch did go up against it, it would have been no problem at all. They could have got about a million more on a Sunday.

I thought Twilight would have rated a bit higher, but 2.5m is still pretty good. I thought OK TV! would have done a bit better too, but the real test for Channel 5 is tonight at 9pm.

Pretty good to see the Inbetweeners hit 1m for a repeat showing, no doubt because the movie is out now.

Who Do You Think You Are did well. Emmerdale seems a bit on the low side, but good to see Hollyoaks staying at the 1m mark mid week.

I feel very nervous for Channel 5. I do hope that not only does it rate well tonight, but over the coming weeks they can maintain a good average audience.

Well, I think it was TBH, Jeff and Jenny have done a lot of interviews, a lot about BB. It is a small indicator, but it was plugged, and I expected more.

Real test tonight though, Obviously.

Ok! TV has been rating lower since H&A ended. Nothing to worry about in relation to tonight. What is more noteworthy is Croc Man doubling its audience for episode 2.

Twilight underwhelmed in the end. Excellent for Rowling on WDYTYA.

So much for Twilight being an all important factor in last night ratings, the lost gardens of Helligan was just as popular and I forgot it was on curses, really wanted to watch that. I guess Channel 5 moved CBB out of the way of Twilight unneccessarily didn't they.

Hmmm. Not brilliant for Channel 5 on the eve of there most important night, and I'm sure they would have wanted to have some momentum gained throughout.

Twilight under performed.
