how would it count, if due to my sister talking, I stopped watching Torchwood for a few minutes, and then started to watch my recording when she had finished blabbing?

I was recording it as it went out live.

As long as she stopped talking and you watched the rest of the programme by 2am, it would be in the overnights.

If she hadn't stopped talking before 2am, only the part you saw would be included.

believe me she would have been physically pushed out the room long before 2am. I am sure however she would have been talking elsewhere.

Does anyone have the ratings for the other C5 programmes yesterday?

Oh, well, if you're going to split hairs.....()

"CBB is the sort of programme you watch live or as live later the same evening or not at all"

I simply mean its official figures are not going to be way, way up on its overnights the way some drama are. So it's unlikely to climb above, say, the Ten O'Clock News' 5.6m. (another programme that people won't record to watch later in the week when there's nothing else on.)

Channel 5 winning its timeslot is very impressive. How often does that happen?

I'm really pleased that Hollyoaks has kept it's audience and arguably at times built on it because it has been the best soap this summer. Really good storylines, the cast which had a major overhaul is finally settling down.

They could do with getting rid of a few of the dodgy kids like Ruby who's acting drags the show down but otherwise if you throw in +1 and E4 and the omnibus, Oaks must be enjoying audience of about 2.5 million which for C4 is decent.

Fantastic rating for CBB, I didn't expect it to go as high as that. Also very good that although the numbers were down they actually beat the average share of the last CBB launch suggesting that had they launched it in January like Channel 4 did then C5 would (potentially with same competition) be capable of a 6m average or so.

These numbers are from DS and show C5 beating the share of Channel 4's version:
2011 - 5.16m (22.3%)
2010 - 5.91m (21%)

I Think The Soaps did quite Well ok maybe a bit low for Eastenders and Corrie but i think Emmerdale rating is very good and don't forget it is summer.

And interestingly both BBC and ITV News at 10 were clearly hurt. Those appear to have gone under the radar, 3.4m for BBC and 1.6m for ITV is just terrible and well below what they usually get.

I'll probably get slaughtered for this comment but I wonder if Channel 5 considered this at all:

20:00 - Celebrity Big Brother: Launch
21:30 - Cowboy Builders
22:30 - Big Brother's Bit on the Side

Although I can see why they launched Big Brother at 9pm, to give it the biggest rating possible - unfortunate that Cowboy Builders took a hit as a result. Given the poor opposition tonight, I do think there's a very good chance Channel 5 could win the 9pm hour again tonight, of course substantially down on last night, but a ~3.5m could be enough for it to win the hour.

That is just illogical for the sake of 700,000 viewers being knocked off Cowboy Builders. Launch show would be up against Emmerdale and Corrie and the gap between launch and BOTS is too long and BOTS would have suffered. It would also strangle their big new show at birth. To get big figures, sometimes something has to give and unfortunately last night it was Cowboy Builders.

A 28% share for Emmerdale is not good.

Regarding the lower repeat rating for Lewis this week recall that it was probably not even known to be on by much of its audience.

This week's TV listings magazines (Radio Times, TV satellite etc) all had ITV 1 down as showing football on Wednesday. As that is a very different audience profile some potential viewers for Lewis will never have even checked to discover that the listings were wrong.

As for Torchwood it is being eroded by the foolish decision to abandon the success of the 5 part over one week event of Children of Earth. Had they not spun this story out to one episode a week for 10 weeks thus slowing it right down and padding it out it would have been getting 5 million + on average. Unfortunately, it is paying the price for trying to make a UK format work in the USA.

Let us hope they never get the same idea about Doctor Who.

It certainly did.

1.25m for the coverage, with the actual match averaging 1.6m....peaking at 1.8m at 8pm.

That's the REAL ratings story of the night
