Whilst on the subject of the Prediction Game, since I can't update at the moment, a few lines regarding CBB that might be of interest to put into perspective that fantastic result for Channel 5 last night...

The lowest prediction out of 35 players was 2.3 million.
The average prediction out of 35 players was 3.5 million.
The highest prediction out of 35 players was 4.4 million.
The actual time-checked rating was 5.2 million.

Very rare for players to underpredict by that margin and shows the scale of the achievement.

CBB caught me out, I predicted the average but it's a good result.

Dancc, what did you think of Brian Dowling and Emma Willis, I thought Brian did an okay job but Emma really should have got the main presenting gig and Brian BOTS.

Im sure Desmond will be thrilled that Big Brother out preformed what was expected of it, by our little group

Just posting these (officials) figures for comparison ( during this weekend) from the BARB website for January 2010 CBB - first full weekend on Channel 4. There ought be a drop off of around 40% on last night's launch episode. No doubt people will pounce if it dropped below 2.5m, but even a 50% retention for a Friday would be good.

The competition tonight is - My Family/Miranda; India on Four Wheels; Someone's Daughter, Someone's Son; 8 Out of 10 Cats/Chris Moyle's Quiz Night.

Channel 5 launch The Bachelor at 10.00pm tonight (which could rate 2 million), CBB Bit on the Side is pushed back to 11:05pm (if that can rate 1 million it would be impressive)

I thought Brian did a great job. He was very funny in places with his witty assessment of each housemate's arrival into the house and he certainly knew how to work the crowd! There were a few awkward less so good moments as well, I think it's fair to say. I can't remember who it was now, but at one point, someone about to go in just wouldn't get into position for the camera, and Davina would have soon whipped them into place and ask what needed to be asked, whereas Brian paused a little too long. There were a few little moments like that where he struggled and lost control. He also spent far too much time looking at his cue cards! But I'm being really picky now. Overall I think he was fine and will grow more into the role as the series progresses. Last night's ratings news will boost his confidence for tonight, I'm sure. He's about a 7 out of 10 at the moment, but I think he could be an 8 or even a 9 with practice. He's definitely got the capability, I'm sure of that after last night.

I think Emma would have brought something different to the role, and she is more experienced overall, but the comparisons to Davina would have been made more strongly, whereas with Brian that is much less pronounced. Plus it's only right that Bit on the Side, a show for the fans, was hosted by a massive superfan like Emma. What Brian brings as host is unique in that he's been in there and done the whole thing twice himself. So I think he'll find it easier to connect with the evictees during interviews and stuff.

I think Emma being heavily pregnant may have been the reason why they picked Brian over her although being heavily pregnant never stopped Davina . I do wonder whether Davina was approached when Channel 5 brought back BB and she turned it down or whether they decided to start afresh? I do hope she's makes an appearance on BOTS though.

The MGEITF is this weekend so we'll hear news on what the channels have in store for Autumn and 2012.

I think there's something quite nice about that final episode of series 11 going out in the programme's old traditional slot of Friday at 8.30pm.

Maybe ITV should get Sally Wainwright to reinvent The Onedin Line as this is totally ripe for a next generation update (indeed some of the original stars are still around just like with Dallas).

It could do well as an 8 pm Sunday drama like it was on the BBC.

Bit of a cockup on Channel 5 before Neighbours. The continuity was all over the place. "Next tonight is CSI..." No it's not! Then she proceeded to give details of a competition that promptly cut off. All this over the top of a special ident for The Bachelor. I don't know what your average viewer would have made of that but it wasn't the greatest start to the evening. At 5pm there was nobody to introduce the news at all.

The continuity is normally live in the evenings (pre-recorded up to 5pm) - maybe someone is late.

World Darts will probably be a good thing for ESPN, filling lots of hours. I don't think it's rated all that well on weekdays on BBC Two recently. Maybe it's ahead of the slot averages for 1 to 3pm, but I expect it's well behind the slot averages from 3pm onwards.

Not sure how the semis rate on Saturdays, but the final does well for BBC Two.

To be fair to Davina she was consistent all along in saying she wouldn't do it again because she'd already said goodbye to it once. And I think that's fair enough. I'm not sure she was quite as enthused about the show towards the end as she was at the beginning anyway. Plus she has enough keeping her busy and BB is a massive commitment for any presenter!

Apparently she was there last night at the launch - or so I read somewhere - is that true?

She's in Canada so it's very unlikely. With Davina, she would have to drop a show if she were to return to Big Brother but I imagine she'll still watch it and enjoy as a fan rather than a presenter and I imagine if asked, she'll be a guest on BOTS.

I have to say the eye in the intro was better than the eye they've used for the promos.

Davina has been trying to drag herself away from BB for years, First with ITV, Love on a Saturday Night, then with BBC, "Davina", Those bombed so she stayed. She's got a few decent rating shows now, so she was never going back.

I'm sure she wanted away, because as you say, it was a massive committment, but many BB fans felt she'd lost interest with the show and didn't really watch it from very early on.

Still interesting that BBs ratings still muller all her new shows, ho-hum.

4.1 was my best guess after much deliberating... but in the end I was just outside the scoring zone.

That's superb for Celebrity Big Brother; I thought it'd really struggle as well. My prediction on the ratings game is frankly looking embarrassing. The key will be Sunday night's episode IMO - will it regain viewers that'll be lost tomorrow night? Cowboy Builders did ok in the 8pm hour, but the fact Big Brother found 4m+ on it's lead in shows how well it did. Considering how late it finished, Bit On The Side claimed a very strong figure.

Crimewatch performed reasonably well for BBC One. Traffic Cops was dented by going head to head with Coronation Street rather than getting a head start. I doubt they'd be too concerned if Starz say that they're not interested in another series of Torchwood - it hasn't set the ratings board alight.

Town performed ok for BBC Two, but I think Monty Halls' escape was hurt by the soaps on ITV1.

The shares look low for both ITV soaps and EastEnders. The raw figures are ok for Emmerdale, though. Single Handed's figure will probably look pretty strong against what Show Me The Funny will get in the same slot!

Channel 4's highest rating was at 6pm; it says it all. the creative renewal still shows no signs of appearing even now the programme they buried has returned. Hollyoaks seems to have stabilised, however.

I thought 4.5m would be the max, but was pretty certain it would come in at around 5m after seeing all the interest last night on Facebook and Twitter.

I don't think Channel 4 will regret dropping Big Brother, I think the last few series it had become a millstone and the money they saved has been used for drama and factual even if it hasn't been hitting ratings with the exception of BFGW, 24 Hours in A&E and OBEM as well the Bodies franchise.

The next thing Channel 5 need to do is sort out 8pm, that should be doing 1m a night or so. I think maybe take a leaf out of Channel 4's book and do a medical fly on the wall series.

BREAKING Confirmed Charlie Sheen is officially a Big Brother housemate just had it confirmed in the last few moments !

Of course rumours are Bobby Brown is going in - Charlie Sheen would be a ratings coup - I doubt he could go 3 weeks without a woman though.....

Maybe they're trying to confuse the viewers - promoting CSI in the hope Neighbours can claim the kind of rating CSI achieves.

Really if he does have a problem stick one of Jedwood in the dress, he will be so drunk he wont know the differnce, and for once viewers can tell them apart.

He has flown in at Heathrow - according to numerous reports on Twitter / TV guide - he could work as Big Brother in the diary room - like C4 did in 2010, as I recall they had celebs taking over the diary room for a day.

I remeber the Diary Room, im not sure Charlie Sheen is who I would want in it.

It's not often, if ever that Channel 5 wins the slot, I wonder how many times that will happen during this Big Brother series.

Tonight maybe, I expect Channel 4's line up to be dented severely as it targets the same people. Any other nights between then and the CBB final/BB launch will depend on what the drop off is like tonight.
