Hmm. A night of two halves for Channel 5 really. That figure for CBB is good, although I think from here we are going to see it decline to the 2 millions as ratings powerhouse The X Factor returns and swamps the publicity. ( Although not in the Daily Star of course 
)
The Bachelor under performed given the huge amount of promotion and the massive lead in and I think we are seeing that BB isn't going to support the whole channel as I feel some would have hoped it would.
So overall, a mix of the good and the bad for C5 tonight.
Channel 4 continues to be hit pretty badly, with ITV 1 still struggling in that Friday slot. Awful scheduling.

Even at 2m a night it could be very profitable for them going by those demos especially given the reduced fees Five are paying for the rights.
Very impressive ABC1 audience for WDYTYA too.

Maybe. But it's had next to no publicity anyway ( except the Daily Star of course ) and it seems to be doing okay! There has been a bit of interest in Sally Bercow going in (genius casting move) but that's it. In the run up it was mostly ignored.

No, no, no! The Bachelor would have rated worse without the CBB lead-in, no question about that. A 7% audience share is still very good for Channel 5 compared to average.

Radio Five Live did a few minutes on Thursday morning, and Sky News have been mentioning it in their paper reviews.
I don't listen to/watch other news broadcasters, but have they all ignored it?

BBC News did a whole feature on it Friday lunchtime.

Yup. The programme itself is doing very, very well for C5 although I think we are going to continue to sink as the X Factor and SCD dominate publicity.

Well C5 did promote it a lot, as did the Daily Star so that will be a huge reason for the high ratings. I think it will rest at the 2 millions mark.

I know it would have rated worse. I said that it should have done better considering the lead in and the huge promotion it got. I think those at c5 will be disappointed with how it did. I think it under performed. Overall, I don't think it's given a massive boast to the programmes around it, which is what I think would have happened.
Worth noting that The Bachelor rating from DS is tape-checked for 22:05-23:00. The CBB lead-in will have a bigger effect boosting the full-slot average for the programmes following it than the tape-checked averages, due to the bigger overflow of viewers into the 22.00-22.05 period (which the tape-checked averages may not include). So for the 10-11pm hour, C5's average yesterday would've been higher (1.4m/1.5m).

Another good night for Big Brother last night, and EastEnders and Coronation St very close to each other.
I see the final episode of Miranda is not in the provisional schedule for September 9th. I'm guessing that one was a Christmassy episode, which would explain it being missed off the run. I wonder what will take its place.

Could it be Would I Lie To You? It hasn't been aired yet and Graham Norton must be back soon so there might not be room for it at 10:35pm. I know it didn't do well at 9pm in 2008 but the show has come on a lot since then and the last series was getting 3m+ at 10:35pm, so it could probably do 4m+ at 9:30pm with an Outnumbered lead in.

a risky move i'd say, but you could be on to something there. i can't see anywhere else the new series will go if they want to air it in 2011

There doesn't seem to be anywhere else for it to go and it was recorded a while back so I presume they want it this year. I think it could do decent business in that slot with the strong lead in that Outnumbered should provide.

I think you could be right. I thought they would have shown it in the 10.35pm slot when Norton finished for the summer, but they didn't.
What is ironic is that C5 have been beating C4 for the last two nights with Big Brother. Tonight it will be dented by the return of The X Factor.

I was expecting WILTY to replace Graham Norton guring the summer but they've opted from some repeats and then a repeat screening of John Bishop's Saturday night comedy instead. So they must be planning to move it to a prime-time slot. And why not? It's the funniest programme on TV.
The big difference between the series now and how it was in the early days is the host. Rob Brydon enters into the spirit of things exponentially more than Angus Deayton ever did. To Deayton it was just a job. To Brydon it's a party and he's invited.

Saw a trailer for Red Or Black a little while ago. It's an epic-looking trailer. But I imagine the trailer for Kevin Costner's The Postman looked epic as well. Or Jennifer Lopez's Gigli. Or, indeed, BBC1's 50 Ways To Leave A Game Show. And look what happened to them.
I still say ROB seems like one of those programmes that's much more fun to participate in than to watch on TV (like 50 Ways To Leave A Game Show).
It also, with its huge number of contestants, seems reminiscient of the old Japanese game show Endurance, which, IIRC, was considerably more successful as a let's-laugh-at-the-Japanese segment on Clive James On TV than it was as an ITV Saturday night light entertainment programme (a rare offering from that long-forgotten ITV franchise holder TVS).
