I think the Saturday BBs will continue to do better than previous years (at least relative to other days) because it's always going to follow X Factor, just as 12 million people start flicking over from ITV1 a lot of them will end up going to Channel 5. There are probably more people watching Saturday night TV in the first place during X Factor season so it's a help not a hindrance to BB.

Either way, still a good rating for The X Factor. CBB held up well for a Saturday. Traditionally Saturday's are quite low, so hopefully that number is a base to grow from.

So What to do think the X Factor Series average Will be this year. I Don't think it will be higher then last year but will be be lower or Higher then 2009?

DS Are not wrong. X Factor got 10.80m without plus 1.

at the X-Factor rating. I thought it would decline by a substantial amount given the new judging panel. That's a brilliant rating for it.

CBB was steady, but solid although I can see it getting that sort of rating for the rest of the run. CCB: BOTS doesn't seem to be doing that well though?

which is up 0.01 on last years 10.79 which means saying it was slightly down is wrong

BBC1 held up respectably, no real bad shares there in all honesty. Family Fortunes did impressively, although its almost certain to drop by at least 1.5m to 2.0m next week due to Doctor Who, however it does have a 10 minute head-start so the gap may not be too much. Don't need to say what has already been said about X Factor, but given the good reaction to last night's show and the rating for it, anyone hoping for a ~10% to 15% decline looks set to be mistaken. I suspect a slight decline is inevitable, but nothing huge.

Big Brother did well, but if Bit on the Side continues with only 0.2m on 5*, I can see it quickly either being moved to Channel 5 or its hours reduced. Or, who knows... maybe an hour of live streaming....

Stop there.

Last year
10.79m on ITV1
0.49m on ITV1 HD
0.00m on ITV1 +1 (it didn't exist)
=> 11.28m

This Year
10.802m on ITV1 and ITV1 HD
0.504m on ITV1 +1
=> 11.30m

ITV1 and ITV1 HD's ratings are now bundled together by DS, so it is up albeit marginally on last year.

It depends whether websites wish to include +1 or not, if they do then its a record high.

TXF couldn't come too soon for ITV1, 11.3M buries the memories of some abysmal summer flops like The Marriage Ref. However, two more instalments of Born to Shine and Show Me The Funny to go before the station can write off these megaflops forever.
Nice ratings for Family Fortunes, though, 6 milion is excellent for a show that first appeared 31 years ago and another ITV1 LE veteran, YBF, still holds up well. Also when Downton Abbey and IACGMOOH appear, ITV1 can forget about their poor summer.

No it doesn't:

"Introducing new judges Gary Barlow, Tulisa Constostavlos and Kelly Rowland, the eighth series of the talent show launched with 10.8m (45.7%), as well as a further 504k on ITV1 +1."

The Marriage ref was the most ridiculous commission ever, it flopped so hard on NBC why on Earth did ITV think it would work .

It seems ITV tend to write summers off now and work towards strong autumns/winters - it's safe to say they'll be very strong this year and I actually think XF won't be too far off last series as the new judging panel have been very well received and the hype is huge, as ever.

To be fair, they did have a good Spring season aswell in which they were able to get some returning hits in the form of Vera, Scott and Bailey and Suspicions of Mr. Whitcher... It's only the Summer that they seem to have a constantly awful period.

which however is not slightly down

A great start for The X Factor (I said it would still be popular), and a good night for ITV overall. And Celebrity Big Brother held up well too.

We have an interesting few months leading up to Christmas, Downton, Doc Martin, Strictly, I'm A Celebrity, Red Or Black, Doctor Who, Big Brother.

It's going to be fascinating seeing the ratings come in.

I guess they feel that ratings will be lower in summer anyway, so they save their expensive programming (or programmes for which they have high hopes) for one of the other three seasons, a la US TV.

It's on C5 some days, but not others. Crazy, going to all the expense of making it in HD and only showing it on an SD channel.

It's going to be a fascinating few months of ratings i mean even after all that The Voice will be starting, Sherlock will return to and with the golden jubilee and Euro 2012 and Olympics. It's going to be fun to see the ratings come in.

Fantastic rating for XF. I really didn't expect it to be on par with last year, but I guess like the revamped Big Brother, it got the viewers intrigued to see what the new line up would be like. I must say there was some of the best auditionees I've ever seen and they picked the right ones. The show took a while to get into it with the biggest build up I've ever seen introducing the judges. I expected there to be revamped titles after BGT too, but never mind.

I enjoyed Louis trying to act like the head judge at the start, then Gary taking over. Kelly showed more personality than Tulisa and they all seemed to get better as the show went on. Not a perfect line up at all, but it could have been worse. I'm in two minds about whether getting rid of Louis would have been a good idea. Viewers like familarity, but on the other hand he was coming out with the same old tired remarks.

CBB held up much better than I thought and it seemed to dent WWTBAM slightly, because just over 4m for the biggest lead in it has had in years isn't that good.

My thoughts exactly, though next summer ITV1 can at least look to the Euros to keep their ratings up after BGT, though this all depends on a home nation qualifying. Yet for now the station's biggest gun is on town and the station is guaranteed at least 10 million viewers every Saturday and some Sundays for the next 4 months.
I still predict an average of 11 million for TXF 2011. The show seems to have hit a plateau now and is a massive hit with the family and teenage market.

Two stand out figures:

CBB- 2.7m is the highest Saturday rated show since June 2008! Traditionally Sundays would rate about half a million more than Saturdays, so we should be looking at 3m+ tonight.

XF- Brilliant start with the new judging panel!

rzt, do you have a breakdown for Friday's Big Brother? You won't get me asking for a Big Brother breakdown everyday , but just wondered whether 4m chose to check it out at the start after Thursday's launch and only 3 million remained at the end, or whether it found its 'point' and stayed at a certain level throughout the show. Thanks.

Wasn't Scott and Bailey on in the summer?
