Good point about the shares.

Personally, I put it down to all three of the big soaps being very average for most of the year. There just aren't any major storylines that have gripped the viewers/nation and it's been like that long before the summer. This probably explains why less fewer casuals are tuning in during the summer because they'll be thinking "why bother when it will just be boring".

A pretty poor figure really considering the lead in. I thought it would do better, although it obviously wasn't destined for that slot in the beginning. IIRC this show was announced before CBB, so it would probably have got a better slot had CBB not been acquired.

Agreed, there. Haven't watched Corrie since the beginning of the year, EastEnders since middle of last year and Emmerdale for a good few years. Obviously I've watched episodes here and there, but not watched it 'properly' since then.

Regarding the shares, I suspect they will pick up in the next few weeks.

As the US executive producer, Kary Antholis, is from HBO, I don't suppose they mind!!

Interesting CL draw and not good for ITV - ie because the 1st picks will not all be clear - meaning Sky's 2nd pick game on Wednesdays will be competitive.

Man U & Man C same night
Chelsea & Arsenal same night

Tough draw for Man C - Bayern, Villarreal, Napoli. This will set up attractive games making interesting TV choice up against Man Utd who have "easy" games against both Basel and a team from Romania.

This will be even more the case because Man Utd will be at home when Man C are away.

ie Will ITV stick with Man Utd as usual? I suspect not - potentially only one Man Utd game on ITV.

Well it brings Merlin to a neat finish just before Christmas and a Doctor Who lead-in might just offer a few fresh sets of eyes as it begins its run too. So that works fine.

My question would be about what on earth happens on October 1st, when I would have expected Strictly to start its 12 week run. They surely can't be looking to shoehorn a Who finale, Strictly launch and Merlin into one night? If Strictly launched the week later (or Who finished a week earlier) it would be very neat - but apparently not...

I know Gently is in the programme information for that week, but there's nothing to stop him vanishing when the schedules are confirmed.

Is the Dinosaur thing thirty minutes or an hour? Might go on Wednesdays with Waterloo Road if it (Dinosaur) is only thirty minutes. Or they might have Nigel Slater's new cookery series on the Wednesday. Radio Times magazine is hinting at a Masterchef series starting that week, too. Don't know if it's a celeb one or not.

There early evening lineup isn't performing too well, but I'm sad that there documentary didn't hit the 2 million mark as by all accounts it was an alright programme. Quite a good rating for it, although it did get promoted alot so I did think it would achieve higher.

ITV had a better night, with a good rating for the football. Hopefully when there quality, high rating drama starts again partnered with X-Factor and IACGMOOFH then we stat to see better ratings for the channel.

WDYTYA hit a little by the increased competition in that time slot.

It'll be a shorter show, as it is split over the Fri/Sat as last year. It'll be a squeeze but doable, may have to get rid of a the lottery gameshow for a week or so.

Out by 200,000 on the fitba, not bad, still reckon on Man U getting 6 million when they're on ITV1.
Anyway ITV1's summer is drawing to a close now and the big guns like Downton Abbey and Doc Martin are on the horizon so they can have five guaranteed hits this autumn, six if you count I'm A Celeb at the frozen end of the season. Also the veteran Family Fortunes seems to be gaining a new lease of life by leading into TXF.
However, BBC One seems to have hits all round now- the old days when they fell asleep for two months in the summer are long gone- and shows like The Apprentice and New Tricks have done very well for them this summer alongside continuing hits like EE, HC, Countryfile and Casualty.
Who'd have thought, though, that a heavily PSB programme aimed at farmers on a Sunday morning has become a hit?

Will they move Doctor Who up or keep it at 7 and put Merlin on after with most of it going against X Factor? I was hoping for a more stable timeslot for DW this time but it's looking unlikely.

Not a particularly good start for Mount Pleasant. It's had a fair amount of coverage as well and had relatively little competition in terms of scripted shows except for E4's Beaver Falls. I went for a conservative 0.7m on the DSRPG but equally I wouldn't have been surprised with ratings of up to 1 million for such a heavily plugged show on Sky, where original shows nearly always debut quite high, even in the overnights.

It's gone under the radar a bit but I must say I was relieved to see Emergency Bikers post such a strong figure for its return last night. Indeed it gifted Channel 5 their highest audience share (6.1%) at 8pm on a weeknight since the Series 2 finale of Eddie Stobart: Trucks & Trailers (6.7%) on Friday 1st July. Hopefully it's through the bad patch it had earlier in the year. The last new episode on Thursday 9th July logged just 819k (3.7%) so it's a big improvement. Perhaps also it's better suited to Wednesday nights away from Emmerdale and Corrie.

A decent enough evening for both channels and no doubt a relief to ITV1 be 4m+ for 3 hours (ITV News at Ten dropped like a stone as usual.) BBC1 ought have put 'The Football League Show' on at 10.45 after the news, it was on way too late.

Interesting and the right strategy to boosting local content. UTV have had a 10.30pm bulletin in NI for a while now which must do well enough as it hasn't been axed.

Also BBC4 set to air Aussie drama The Slap - interesting (and about time) to see a few Aussie shows getting picked up here lately.

I'm not sure what slot a programme like that would get though? One would assume that it would be multiple times a week but I couldn't imagine it being a hit to the masses...

I see no US sites calling it a HBO/Cinemax production. Because they know HBO want nothing to so with Cinemax and they dont want to Tarnish their brand. As Cinemax usually airs shows like Zane's Sex Chronicles, Lingerie, Life on Top and Femme Fatales
