I bought a HD 8520 recorder last Wednesday and set it up to record 5 programmes 4 of them came OK but the other had a red sign by the name of the programme and it did not record.
Have I done anything wrong?

Sometimes, fiddling about within the EPG produces these unplayable recordings. At least the PHILIPS shows then as unplayable. Most other boxes just don't record, and leave you wondering whether you had a "senior moment"! My HUMAX plays such tricks on me all the time!

You have a good box. Make sure it is running software version 7.21. Some of them ship with an earlier iteration.

Yes bought a HD 8520!

It's a strange box this some people have lots of problems others none (like me).

I think there two factors here. Signal strength is important. Weak signals cause stuttering and problems with audio sync. The other is usage. If you record lots and have a full library it causes problems as well.

If you have set the box to record 2 programmes either simultaneously or at least over-lapping then if you are using the box to watch a channel other than the two then you can end up with a lost recording. I.e. you set the box to record programmes on say BBC2 & E4 but are watching Quest you hit a problem as the box has only the 2 tuners.
