My Sisters Keeper (films with disappointing endings)
Sorry if there is already a thread on this, but just saw My Sisters Keeper today starring Cameron Diaz and Abigail Breslin. Was really looking forward to it as the book by Jodie Picoult is one of my favourites, but was so disappointed by the ending which is nothing like the book.

I've not read the book but was looking forward to the film.
I was so disappointed, didn't think it was very good at all, and not sad. I'm usually really sensitive to things and cry at a lot of stuff, but it jsut felt like the film was more interested in making you cry than the film and story itself. The constant dragged out montage scenes with slow sad cliche music. It took away the emotion for me and I lost all sympathy with the characters. |

It's basically just a film about someone dying of cancer, yes it made me cry.. but thats because i'm a big sap when it comes to things like that, but the lawsuit just didn't seem the same as it did in the book. Also i was more annoyed after hearing Jodi Picoult speak at a kind of "evening with.." at a local theatre when she was promoting "House Rules" & there was a Q&A at the end and someone asked her about the My Sisters Keeper film... and she explained that she had informed them at the beginning that they were not to change the ending, she then heard a rumour that they had changed it during filming so went to the set & was refused entry, the director wouldn't answer her calls!! ![]() She described it as when you give a child up for adoption they either go to a loving home or they go to grow up in a crack den!! And thats what happened to her book! So now i refuse to watch that film ever again out of principle! I'd love a film to be made out of more of her books - so long as they did the books justice, especially The Pact. |

It was just pure Oscar bait, thankfully they didn't fall for it.

I watched it and couldnt believe the ending . The kids were great in the film , Kate and Anna played really well but I have to say I thought Cmeron Diaz was brutal in it .
Mind you I hated her character both in the book and the film so that didnt help . |

I thought they ruined it TBH, the book had a totally unexpected twist. Having a film where someone who's been dying since that start and dies at the end is sort of obvious.
