Is there a different box that I can use for watching Sky TV apart from the regular Sky boxes.

I am hoping to have one Sky HD box and then have another box (HD also) but not Sky - but both with DVR.

I would like to pair Sky cards with both boxes.

What are you hoping to achieve by using a non-Sky box?

Sky cards will only work in a Sky box anyway.

You can only use Sky cards with a Sky box I am afraid. But, Sky HD boxes are cheap second hand on the likes of Ebay, although you'll need a Freesat from Sky card to access all the free channels, and need to pay Sky a tenner a month for the second box if it's a PVR and you want to record.

An option is to use the SKY HD box and card on your main TV, but go for Freesat HD on your other tv(s). With Freesat you'll get their 4 or 5 HD channels and all their SD channels, but of course, you don't get as many channels than you do with a Sky subscription.

Can't recall the specifics but you can use a separate CAM , Dragon CAM IIRC with the Sky card to watch Sky channels on another satbox.

Without the CAM and card you can only see free to air channels but that will give access to all the BBC channels , most ITV channels (perhaps not your region) aswell as C4 , E4 , More 4 etc.

And other manufacturers do offer recording features too .
They are not that cheap and you'll only save £10 a month .
If you pay Sky any sub at all you're better off with a Sky box

Not true. You can also use a Diablo 2 Ver 3.9 CAM but at around £100 (new) and a programmer £40 to £50 (new) it's an expensive way to watch Sky by the time you add a receiver, alternatively a Openbox S9 will read a Sky card and is only about £80.
