Hello everyone and a heartfelt welcome to the Official Aaliyah memorial thread, a beautiful woman who was tragically taken from us on August 25th 2001. This thread is a place where fans can mourn in the run up to the tenth anniversary of Aaliyah's tragic and untimely death.

Over the next few days and possibly weeks me and fellow Aaliyah fan dondfan998 will be hosting a huge memorial service. The service consists of poems, music, celebrity tributes and anything you- our fellow Aaliyah fans wish to donate to the proceedings.*

The first poem will be posted at 1:00 today, but in the meantime feel free to reflect on the life of an angel.

It's been too long and I'm lost without you
What am I gonna do?
Said I been needin' you, wantin' you
Wonderin' if you're the same and who's been with you
Is your heart still mine?
I wanna cry sometimes
I miss you

Aaliyah 1979-2001

It's great to be a part of this, and I hope you all join us to celebrate the life of a singer, actress, model and legend.

I LOVE THIS WOMAN!It's so tragic that she's not here right now. It's really pointless but I always wonder how her career would have gone if she was still alive.

R.I.P. Aaliyah

Rihanna and Ciara are big one-name singers, and it annoys me how many children can name them (Rihanna especially) but not know who Aaliyah is.

Would you like to find a poem to represent her?

It annoys me too, but of course when Rihanna makes appearances like that: http://thatgrapejuice.net/2011/08/ho...e/rihanna-45a/ then of course she will be popular with the kids

I write lyrics and poems all the time but I don't think I could post something.

My daughter was only born last month but she gurgles when Aaliyah is playing. Rihanna is a bad influence, S&M? Rude Boy? It only takes one search and you know the meaning behind them!

Agreed. This is why we are living in a controversial world where young girls are wearing lipstick and mascara before they hit secondary school

I know right! On August 25th BET will honor Aaliyah and a lot of artists will be there and I will be truly pissed off if Beyonce isn't there to perform or just speak about Aaliyah.

Destiny's Child is a great group. Beyonce has always spoken out about Aaliyah and how they were good friends, and how she was an angel. Kelly Rowland will be on the BET special, it has been confirmed.

I would like the ever beautiful Beyoncé to sing Listen an emotional song which Aaliyah would be happy with. If she does perform she will hopefully have more respect than to sing Run The World (Girls)

Hopefully this will be shown in the UK, but we may get it late August/early September.

Acutally, since Aaliyah was a girl who was running the world the song would make sense.Anyway, I want her to be there to show respect and I think that her presence will be enough to honor Aaliyah, even if she doesn't perform

I doubt that any UK network would broadcast a BET show

We have BET in the UK, though.

I hadn't thought about it from that light.
Selena Gomez may be attending according to some reports, she was 9 when Aaliyah died so I don't know if it would be good for it.

Selena Gomez? Really? I know she was named after Selena who also had a tragic death and I would have more respect for her if she turned up.

Why not??She could introduce Aaliyah to a whole new audience. The more acts that perform the better

I agree. Heck, even Justin Bieber, Jenna Rose and Rebecca Black could perform and I wouldn't care - I want people to see Aaliyah and understand her.
