I suppose that it's 2 a.m. or 3 a.m. UK time and I don't live in the UK, so I don't have a clue about SKY...

Aaliyah is today's Billboard.com top story! They've posted an article about her biggest urban hits.If Billboard can pledge the top story to Aaliyah, then the VMA's could stop being bandwagon jumpers and dedicate 3 minutes to Aaliyah.

Btw, 'I Don't Wanna' was quite the hit, wasn't it?I wish we got a video for it...

Hey guys,
I have been watching this thread for a whil and FINALLY decided to post a reply now (Lord knows why)

I watched the BET special.. It was really good i enjoyed it.. I just can never watch something of Aaliyah's without feeling a sense of a waste of talent and great loss.
I listend to her music all day yesterday and its a damn shame we'll never get to hear what she would of done with her music in this day and age of autotune etc.

I will ALWAYS love Aaliyah.. a true talent. They dont make singers like her anymore

You're absolutely right. The saddest thing about her is that we never had the chance to see her peak. Her life was cut short when she was on the verge of taking over and get more creative freedom.A huge loss indeed. She was the full package that nobody else is today...

Aaliyah was tributed twice in the VMA's 2001 (a speech and a performance dedicated to her)

The speech (including Janet, Usher, Timbaland and Missy Elliott)
The dedication of a performance to Aaliyah's memory

Both the performance and the speech were not good enough (the speech was a hot burning mess to be exact; Usher's giggling and testing the microphone like he's never used one before made my blood boil), but it would be SOOOO amazing if the VMA's did a tribute to her, even in the pre-show.I don't care who is included tbh.I just want her to get exposure and her name to be re-introduced.

I didn't even watch it.Was it any good??Aaliyah deserved a tribute, but if they couldn't even honor Britney properly, then I doubt they could do something good for Aaliyah.

They played some of her unreleased songs, and Bruno Mars sang Valerie. Maybe a bit more for Aaliyah, but with artists singing her songs.

The Aaliyah month is almost over, but her memory is always present. She IS one of the most influencial artists to ever emerge in the urban farefront and she's truly missed.

May her soul rest in peace...

I watched the One In A Million special today. I felt sorry for Timbaland - he said him and Aaliyah had a bit of an argument and he never got the chance to say sorry

I remember reading an inerview with Timbo where he said that he contemplated killing himself when Aaliyah died. He constantly questioned what he was meant to do without Aaliyah (the artist that made him famous) by his side.

He felt that without Aaliyah, he can't produce.

And to hear he had an arguement with her before she died, gosh.. he must constantly have regrets.

I really do hope we can keep this thread up and running during the next year as it would be a nice place for people to just post anything aboyt aaliyah.

He tried to commit suicide???I really didn't know that!!I knew he was upset and sad, but not that!Anyway, his fears about production were sadly correct. His tracks with Aaliyah were groundbreaking and masterpieces and apart from a few gems here and there, he never reached his full potential as a producer. He's still one of the best (the best in the genre for me), but he could have rocked the whole industry with Aaliyah next to him!!!

(You can post in the Aaliyah Appreciation Thread, if you want to.There is a whole sub-forum for Appreciation Threads, so when someone brings it back to the first page, it will stay there and get some posts often)

Glad this thread is back. I miss her too. She would have been 33 years old if she hadn't died in 2001 I'm sure r n'b and urban pop wouldn't be in the state it is today if she was here.

I was listening to her 'ΛΛLIYΛΗ' album the other day. It's an urban masterpiece and I'm not even kidding. Some hidden gems like 'I Care 4 U' especially, one of her best songs and one of the best urban pop ballads ever imo!

R.I.P.

My favourite song from ΛΛLIYΛΗ is I Refuse. I listen to that album, like, once a week still.

YES! 'I Refuse' is amazing. The production is brilliant! What still baffles me is how some of the producers she worked with for that album never really took off. I mean, it sold 10million copies worldwide, so it would be natural for other artists to enlist her producers, but they didn't. I'm especially surprised that Rapture is so overlooked. He's an amazing producer! Anyway, 'ΛΛΙΥΑΗΛ' is one of the best albums of its genre, truly cutting edge and timeless. It still sounds fresh today and I actually bet that if tracks like 'Extra Smooth' were released right now, they would be successful. Even some of the bonus tracks like 'Don't Know What To Tell Ya' could become hits...Her sound is so unique...

I like to be just a little more optimistic than that I think the genre doesn't have the authentic and raw feel that it used to have, but there are some pretty good acts out there. Noone that can be as innovative as Aaliyah and her producers were, but there's still some decent urban pop/ r n'b music out there

UPDATE ABOUT THE AALIYAH BIOPIC

Keshia Chante, the Canadian singer that has allegedly been selected to play Aaliyah in the film about her life was interviewed a few days ago and this is what she said about the film
CY: A few years ago there was talks of you know, playing her in a movie of her life and I just wonder for myself and everyone out there what really happened?

KC: What I will say is…I did meet a few people production company wise that are developing the Aaliyah movie and they spoke to me about playing her in the biopic of her life. And from my understanding, there are people trying to create a movie and Aaliyah’s family are still mourning her loss and aren’t ready to share her story and create a film. So there’s a bit of back and forth thing with her family and with creative people.

…unfortunately from my understanding they don’t have complete control of her estate. So a movie could technically be made without them green lighting it and I kind of think that’s unfortunate. So I want her family to be on board and to be happy with it. It’s still kind of lingering in the air. I would love to play the part. I’m a huge fan of Aaliyah…I would want to do it justice and exceed people’s expectations of it.”

CY: I think that could be your Selena moment. Do you feel like that could be your big moment?

KC: If it happened that way, that’s the way God intended for it to be. But I mean it’s not something that I’m sitting there like, this has to be it.

CY: I wonder if you feel for yourself is there any kind of bigger responsibility when people say you know, you’re carrying on the torch for Aaliyah or you are like her or you are the artist that resembles her today. Do you feel like any kind of bigger responsibility there?

KC: I grew up with her and I wanted to be just like her. Even in the Unpredictable video and my Bad Boy video, so many people were like, ‘Oh my gosh, she looks like Aaliyah.’ I was never, we never sat there and said, ‘Let’s try to mimic or find inspiration from that. But I do look at, I look at a lot of her work and she was so ahead of the times. She’s very futuristic.’
So, we'll have to wait and see. The fact that she didn't completely dismiss the possibility of the film being produced is enough for me

WE MIGHT GET A NEW AALIYAH ALBUM SOON!!!

http://thatgrapejuice.net/wp-content...alkertweet.png

J Dub Walker produced some of the best songs on 'ΛΛΙΥΛΗ', like 'I Refuse' and 'I Can', so I consider him a reliable source I REALLY hope it's true. Her music is timeless, so even the unreleased material would sound hot even now, 11 years after they were recorded. I hope it's true!!
