I remember watching Lisa 'Left Eye's final days and they actually showed the car crashing at the very end. I was like WTF.
![]() Seriously, when Aaliyah said that she had just begun to show us what she's capable of (on MTV diary of Aaliyah), I was so upset. ![]() ![]()

Was that a No.1 there???
![]() ![]() I don't know how something that sounded like a tinny mobile phone ringtone could end up being No 1 in the charts.

I am in general a hardcore Aaliyah fan, but every August I really get out of control!
When I watch an interview of hers or some Behind The Scenes footage and see what a sweet and humble person I just get so sad...August is the time for an Aaliyah overload anyway |

AND THE AALIYAH OVERLOAD CONTINUES...
I'm listening to 'You Won't See Me Tonight now (she was a featured act, Nas was the main act. Also, I'm blasting 'One In A Million' and dancing to all the tracks (with the door locked and the windows shut of course ) and listening to some of her unreleased material ('Death Of A Playa' is a personal favorite)HOWEVER, no more interviews and behind the scenes for a while. |

I'm really curious to see which artists are going to honor Aaliyah for the BET spectacle.
Is there any artist that you all REALLY want to be there? |

That would be amazing!Whitney handpicked Aaliyah for a movie, so she knew her personally.I don't think Whitney would perform though (with her 'new voice' she's not really into performing anymore), but just a few words would be heavily appreciated.Janet knew Aaliyah personally too and it would be great if she performed (even if I'm not that fond of her music).

I don't know who I would want to see, but there are definetely people that are hot and successful right now that Aaliyah knew personally (Usher, Beyonce, Pink) and some artists that have said they're inspired by her (Drake, Ciara), so it would be good for all of them to be there. Also, some legends that were praising Aaliyah like Janet and Whitney would be great! Moreover, as Aaliyah is the queen of urban pop, I think that some current popular urban pop acts (Chris Brown, Rihanna) could make an appearance too.

But you know what the sad part is;(apart from Aaliyah's absence of course) the fact that it's BET so some really big (and obnoxious) stars won't be there.

Mary J will surely be there.
btw, O.Michel, I am curious how you became a huge Aaliyah fan? I believe you stated in another thread that you were only 5 years old when she died so how did you hear about her/get about to listening to her music?

Well, Aaliyah was the only r n'b artist to get TV rotation in my country, so even then I knew her name, I could recognize her, I had an Aaliyah poster and I could remember all her videos.Someday, I asked my mother why Aaliyah is not on TV anymore and then I learned that she had died!I was so shocked that even though I didn't speak English back then I kept her name in mind; I never forgot it.When I learned English and I had started listening to international music she was the first artist that I truly discovered.I looked for her on YouTube and I only found 7 videos back then, but 3 days after I went to the store and bought both the albums they had in stock: 'One In A Million' and 'Aaliyah'.Those were the 1st r n'b cds I ever bought and thanks to her I became an r n'b fan.I knew all her songs, the lyrics, I could narrate every single video of hers, I knew all about her chart positions and sales, everything. And then I started looking for info about her death and I was so shocked and devastated, because she was such a sweet person and she died just when she was about to take over the world and that made me appreciate and adore her even more. And of course her music was so smooth and original that it always captured me ; life changing I guess

So, BET has already confirmed that there will be a commentary / talk show special, but do you think that there could be a spectacle after all (with performances, tributes etc)??I would love it if it happened. The Aaliyah tribute for her 5th death anniversary broke a BET record with the ratings, so they should really go for something HUGE and spectacular for the 10th death anniversary.
(It hurts me to say "death anniversary" ![]() ![]() )
