T825 epg refusing to set recording for BBC1 channels
Here's an interesting oddity that has started happening to my Vestel T825 units but NOT my Vestel T816 units. They are Asda ONN units on V13.0 firmware.
Sometimes (quite often) when I bring up the epg and try and set a recording by pressing the rec button on the remote, when I'm trying to set BBC1 recordings, the epg refuses to take the instruction and no red underline appears in the epg nor does any entry appear in the timers list. It only happens on BBC1 as far as I can determine. Attempting to schedule recordings on other channels works fine - the red underscore appears and the event appears in the timers list OK. This problem occurs when attempting to set both single recordings and series record instructions - but only on BBC1. Sometimes, by powering down (plug out) and powering up again the fault will go away but at other times it refuses to work. I'm on the Waltham Transmitter - anyone else suffering this strange behaviour? futaura - any ideas? I did wonder if the roots of this problem might be linked to the vast number of channels now - a bit like the 100 channels problem on T816s we found and the community solved bewteen us all a few months ago. |

Do you have any duplicate channels? Have you tried do a full channel rescan?

Probably a channel rescan will solve - maybe a manual scan might be required if autoscanning still brings problems. The T816 and T825 recording systems a very different - on the T816 recording events are purely time based, and as long as accurate record signalling is still being received on the channel that you set the timer on, there will be no problem. On the T825, on the other hand, timers are purely based on the series and programme CRID information in the EIT. I had this problem on the BBC 301 channel a month or so ago, when I think it changed mux (pre-DSO), yet the old channel was still displaying EPG information, but nothing recorded on it. A rescan solved it for me.

All Freeview+ PVRs. Older model Freeview PVRs may or may not have been made into Freeview+ by a firmware upgrade.

I'm confused by this. My understanding is that Accurate Recording is controlled by the EITp/f (Now/Next) data stream, and this is the case for all Freeview PVRs.

Sure, accurate recording is implemented the same on the T816 and T825. It's the way timers are set/handled internally that is completely different. The T816 timers are set based on the EPG time at the time the timer was set up, and the T816 (non Group 2 software) does not pay attention to the CRIDs. The T825 sets and updates timers based on the CRIDs which may lead to timers being rescheduled or updated, for example (something the T816 simply cannot handle).

I bought an Alba ALDTR160 for my mother a few months ago in preparation for Yorkshire digital switchover which started with the first phase today. (Please correct me if I am wrong but from other searches I think this is a T825) This is the first time digital has appeared on her repeater and so the first time the box has been plugged in was this morning.
Like fewkeste I could not get BBC1 to record and gave up for the time being, but I'll make a visit in the next couple of days and try a rescan. fewkeste, did a rescan work for you? |

Failing to record
Yes a rescan did help, but I sometimes still have the problem. Sometimes a reboot helps and other times, whilst I can't get an individual recording to set, by selecting series record it will work - weird! Any ideas why this should be so futaura?

I tried a rescan yesterday and it worked.
(My mother, who is 87, is trying to get to grips with all of this digital TV stuff. It's hard enough for her when everything works as it should and when things don't she thinks she is doing something wrong. )

Normally this can happen when a channel changes to a different mux or if when you auto scanned, the box picked up signals from more than one transmitter and added duplicate channels to the channel list. A rescan will normally fix it, but sometimes a manual channel scan will be required using the correct transmitter frequencies. That said, I do occassionally see this problem when the EPG has not fully populated properly in which case a reboot fixes.

There is currently only one mux (on a repeater) which probably only went live an hour or so before the first scan on Wednesday. Perhaps that's relevant.
I think this will move on 21st when 2 more multiplexers will be added, so that will be another test. |

Well, I have this BBC1 non-record persistently, can be cured by a re-power, but damn irritating.
'Fraid it's becuase of constant unannounced changes to Freeview, which i often go on about ......there's no permanent cure. Even the best box will be outdated in a few years ....... ,,,,, currently, I've had the stuttering for several months - constantly moving between different muxes unpredictably - and am waiting to see if it will still be there after DSO ...... |

Alba ALDTR160 from Emley Moor doing the same thing will not set a recording from the EPG on BBC1 set the timer manually no problem. Mine started before the first part of switchover.
Rescanned a few times that always cures it for a while, reformatted the hard drive a few days ago failed to set recording this morning. The stuttering mentioned is that on sound after fast forwarding or when the picture freezes then flashes when trying to skip adverts. |
