Converting MVK 1080p to play on my Home theatre System?
Hi,
I just got a Panasonic SC-BTT370 DVD/Blu-Ray player for my projector. I keep trying to play 1080p MKV files (from a USB stick into the port on the player) but although it plays the file the quality is very poor and the picture seems to skip frames etc - I was just wondering if there are any ways to convert the MKV files to another format which can play on it (most of the popular video formats play) without losing any of the quality or surround sound? Or if anyone knows how to fix the MKV troubles on this would also be appreciated! Thanks, Freddy |

you can convert using freemake video convertor to just about any format.
however check if there are any firmware updates for your player. Also sumvision do a £35 play back device that handles 1080p files without problems. |

You aren't going to find many major brand bluray players that will support pirate formats.
If it won't play the 1080p mkv it won't do to convert to anything else. You will simply degrade the picture or make the file enormous. Mpeg 2 or divx has more support but using such a low compression format would result in a lot of trascoding time and a poorer quality huge file. I'm sure you could also try encoding it to some bd format or dvd hd or wmv, but each case is way more trouble than just renting the movie. |

Try a program called mkv2vob, it was designed to convert mkv's for the ps3 but as you say your player supports mpeg2 it should work for your needs.
It remuxes the file so there is no loss of quality, but beware if your mkv has a dts soundtrack you will only get sound through a compatible surround/home theatre set up, if you don't have this you'll need to choose the always convert dts option which will slow down the conversion process. |

I use Freemake to convert different file formats to play on my PS3 and Asus tablet - it's very easy to use and works well.

try handbrake
http://handbrake.fr/downloads.php its freeware.. and i do all my shows that come in mkv format,... takes roughly 30mins for a 318mb file.... oh sorry it converts it to a m4v file which both my xbox and ps3 see and play fine.. in fact i also use it for any avi's that have metadata on them to remove it and convert to a nicer file format |

Another vote here for mkv2vob, it is very fast (approx. 1 min for a 1GB file) as there is no transcoding involved.
