It can record from SCART and S-VIDEO as well as humble old RF, so yes, you can record from NTL.
I believe this model has been discontinued and is replaced by the DMR-E35, which has a 80GB hard drive instead of the 40GB on the HS2, and component progressive scan. For other forum members' feedback try looking in the Digital Video Recorders section.
IMHO, HDD/DVD combos are overpriced at the moment. Standalone DVD recorders are available from around £150 - £250. An 80GB hard drive costs about £40, but when this is added to a DVD video recorder the price rockets to £450+.
