Glad Marina's back - loving this Electra Heart theme going on. I really love ''Fear & Loathing'' and ''Living Dead''. Radioactive's as grower, for me though.

For those asking its a stargate production according to NME.

toanythingtaboo why doesn't it surprise me that you don't like it?

In more horrifying news (for toanythingtaboo anyway) Marina raves and defends a certain artist you loathe so shouldn't that mean that she's on your lame, generic list of artist you think suck?

Personally I love it, she new that this song would rile up some fans but an artist should never write what they think their fans will want....its a road to disaster. I'm loving that this era has a strong direction and she's clearly mapped out where she'd want to go with it.

Well I've got to root around my wardrobe for my blonde wig!

I really like ""Fear and Loathing but "Radioactivity" is the first Marina song I don't really like. I don't hate it but it seems pretty weak to me.

This was posted on Popjustice (where the song is the song of the day) and pretty much sums up my reaction to it:

As with grief, there are five stages of the new Marina & The Diamonds single.

1. This doesn't sound like Marina.

2. Oh yes it does actually.

3. This is amazing.

4. This is amazing.

5. This is amazing.

So, so true.

I really didn't like Radioactive at first. Then I listened to Fear and Loathing and listened to Radioactive straight after. Now I love it.

I think it's how upbeat it is that shocked me. Same thing happened with Family Jewels. Having listened to all her stuff from Crown Jewels and beforehand (ie. original releases of Obsessions, Simplfy, Seventeen) to put the album on and be greeted with upbeat synth-style music most of the way through was just so different.

Then I listened to it a few more times and watched her perform it live and the conversion was complete

Whoop Whoop! Radioactive is Scott Mills' Record of the Week on Radio 1. Hopefully it will start to get some attention!

She kind of reminds me of Little Boots in that both of them were perfectly set up to do well and then apart from one minor hit...nothing. I like Marina though, I think she deserves more.

Marina spoke to Radio 1's Newsbeat:

Quote:
Marina Diamandis has told Newsbeat that she doesn't worry about her album sales as much as she used to.

Speaking about her forthcoming second album, she said: "This time I'm much less focused on success, on being popular and sales."

"I'm much more focused on creating something people can enjoy and in years to come they can go back to it and look at it online or have a CD of it."

Marina and the Diamonds' new single, Radioactive, is released October 3.

The 25-year-old says she wants to make a music video for every song on the new album.

"Basically I've decided to create a living film which is called Electra Heart. It's like an album but each song has a video with it.

"I really love making videos. Part one is online now - it's called fear and loathing. Radioactive is part two - it's inspired by Greek mythology but ties in with Americana and 70's movies."

The singer also revealed she has a number of collaborations lined up for the new album.

"I've written with Rick Knowles, Dr Luke, Stargate, Liam Howe. I've been fortunate to do sessions with these people."

"I have written almost every song with other people which would have been unheard of on the first album."

Diamandis has been touring and spending time in America since the release of her debut album The Family Jewels in 2010.

"I was on tour with Katy Perry. She's really amazing. It really was like a teenage dream, filled with pink glitter and hot girls."

The singer says she feels more positive about the new album than she did about her debut.

"There wasn't a lot I didn't like [about the first album]. I think I was so hyper about being something and making it that it almost came before the songs.

"Now I just don't have energy for it anymore. I feel really happy. It's good because the art should come first."

Loving the new material. I always expect Fear and Loathing to carry on, but it seems to finish abruptly. I guess that's the point, but I always notice this!

New interview Diamonds:

Quote:
On the list of albums we're already looking forward to next year, Marina and the Diamonds' Electra Heart is easily in our top five.

After teasing us with recent single - or "bridge" as she calls it - 'Radioactive' earlier this year, she's prepping for her first proper London gig in 12 months for Mencap's Little Noise Sessions.

Ahead of the show later this month, we called her up to find out whether touring with Katy Perry has calmed her pre-show nerves, and of course, to hear the latest update on her next LP.

What have you been up to this morning?

"Nothing at all, I've just been lying in bed all day!"

We're jealous! So you're part of this year's Little Noise sessions for Mencap; are you looking forward to it?
"I'm sure everyone says they're excited, but I actually am! It's my first show in a year in London and it's the first thing I'll be doing before the second album comes out. The whole set is going to be pretty stripped back. We've hired a wonderful string quartet."

Were you pleased with the response to your last single 'Radioactive'?
"Wow, did that really come out over a month ago already? It was pretty smart of me - releasing a summer song in autumn."

Well, luckily the weather held up, making it the perfect Indian summer song...
"(laughs) Exactly! That's what I was thinking, too. I was really pleased with the response. It was always going to be tricky leaping into a different genre that's popular at the moment. I wanted to make an extreme jump because once you succeed at that, you can do anything you like after."

The song was produced by Stargate (Rihanna, Katy Perry). Did you fear a backlash from some fans?
"Yes and no. Yes - I would have understood if there had been a backlash, especially as I've always spoken out against generic pop music. That said, I think it's hard to criticise a world you don't have a part in. It's safe to say I've learnt a lot of late! I've been pleasantly surprised by the reaction from fans."

Did Stargate allow you much control over the tracks you recorded with them?
"Definitely! They're very self-aware individuals and very supportive. People like them and Dr Luke get a lot of flack, but I found them very inspiring. They insisted that they didn't want me to change my singing or writing style. They worked with me rather than against me. It was great! They're not d**kheads - I've got nothing but love for them."

So you've worked with Dr Luke too; who else?
"I can't say! I worked with four producers on this album. Liam Howe, who worked on my last album, produced 'Fear and Loathing' and a few more. That's all I'm saying!"

You recently toured with Katy Perry - have you ever talked about collaborating?
"Supporting her tour was absolutely amazing. The actual show itself was incredible, too. We've never talked about doing something together but you never know. It would be an interesting one, though, especially with the visuals. We're both keen on colourful music videos!"

We can see the clashing wig colours now.
"Exactly, although mine cost $20 and hers was probably about $2,000!"

Your new album is called Electra Heart, which is based on a character you've invented. Can you explain?
"I'm doing this exhibition called 'The Archetypes', which is about illusion and identity. Electra Heart is basically something that represents all female archetypes - the homewrecker, teen idol, teen runaway, suburban housewife, etc. I can't say much more now as it's too early to reveal it all. It should be out in around three months."

We heard your next single was 'Fear and Loathing' - is that right?
"No! Total lies - that song is definitely on the album, though. The new single sounds completely different to 'Radioactive' - it's very pop with the same cold feeling as 'Fear and Loathing'. Sorry, I'm really bad at this. It will all reveal itself very, very soon!"

Marina has put a new song on Youtube its a demo but the finished version will be on "Electra Heart"

This song totally explains the "if Britney was a goth" sound!

So the sad news is the album is no longer going to be released in February

But to tide us over here is the new demo Marina posted performed live at The Little Noise Sessions last week (she was utterly fabulous)

Starring Role - Now includes an Evanescence style middle 8

I'm really anticipating this album, everything I've heard so far has been really good. Dying to hear the finished version of 'Starring Role' but I've listened to the demo so much I have a feeling I'm setting myself up for disappointment aha. The live, 5 minute version of Fear & Loathing is fantastic too. Hopefully not too much of a wait for the album now, I'm predicting an April release, possible May depending on how many more pre album singles they plan to release.

I wonder if we will hear the single tomorrow or it's just release details. I really thought 'Radioactive' was the first single.

Likewise, hopefully it's still on the album (no reason it shouldn't)..

I think we'll hear the details, song title, single cover perhaps and a Radio 1 premiere date I'm guessing.

I hope so too

I think what you said is probably what will happen, wonder if it will be a 'on air on sale' release. Could be better in the long run, but who knows.
