I have a 10 month old Compaq HP owned desktop PC that im 98% happy with and a 16 month old Compaq HP owned laptop that im 99% happy with.
I also have a year old HP all in one wi-fi printer.
So its not good if they plan to stop making computers.

Who would buy an HP tablet now?

A proprietory OS and a manufacturer that's getting out of the whole thing = sharp price reductions soon.

But still one to avoid because the OS/apps will be going nowhere.

Unless maybe the HP tablet can have it's OS changed over to Android?

I still say tablets are history.

At some point everyone who wants one will have one, and then come to the realisation that laptops are far more useful.

The only reason tablets will be history is because some better will come along.

Tablets are great for surfing the web and showing videos or presentations.

Laptops are good if you need a keyboard but are too bulky compared to tablets.

What's the battery life like on a laptop?

My wife's Samsung netbook only lasts for about five hours, where as my iPad 2 can go for 10 hours straight, whether it's playing videos, web browsing...

Another plus for tablets.

you should be able to reload the HP tablets with Win8 next year.

I'm a self-confessed gadget nerd but I have been resisting the table craze so far as I can't see when I'd use one and I haven't seen a good enough device.

I have my smartphone for when I'm out and about, I have my desktop for "proper" computing and my laptop for "sofa surfing".

Maybe if I spent more time travelling then I might be more tempted, but my Kindle fills most of that gap. When I'm on holiday I'm more interested in reading than watching movies.

I was also quite badly bitten by the netbook craze a few years ago. I bought one to go on holiday with and while it has it's uses, I haven't turned it on in months.

I at first thought this was wrong but apparently MS do have a version of Win8 for Arm.

But would they be selling it to the general public? Seems more likely it would be a manufacturer-only option instead of Android.

Its very hard to judge very young minds.
Yet even with some of the decent quality tablets now at £150 I'm just not interested.

For holiday travel I'm more than happy to make do with a smartphone.
