I don't watch EastEnders. I never have - the concept of it and the few bits and pieces I've seen have done nothing to attract me as a viewer. Therefore, I don't read the EE threads. I'm not saying it's bad - I'm not in a position to comment. It just doesn't seem like my cup of tea.

The only threads I read are Corrie ones. In theory, that should be quite straightforward. However, it's impossible to read a thread about Coronation Street without the whole thing degenerating (within a few postings) to an EE v Corrie slanging match.

I've had a quick look at a couple of EE threads and they're just as bad. It seems that there are loads of people here who will take every opportunity to defend their own favourite by making insulting posts about the other and, worse still, the people who say they like the other soap. I've seen more mature bahaviour in a playground full of 5-year olds!

Can't we just accept that some people like EE and others like Corrie? Is it really necessary to descend into the banal points-scoring that goes on? Many of the contributors here seem unable to post a comment without contravening the forum rules (treating other members with respect!)

It's sad, really. They're only TV programmes. There are many things in the world more worthy of people's hatred. The venom shown by some people here is frightening and completely unnecessary.

Surely it should be possible to discuss your favourite soap politely, without every comment becoming an aggressive attack on people whose opinions are different. There are many (apparently) decent, sensible people here whose fun (yes, coming here should be fun!) is being spoiled by the minority. Why can't these people please calm down?

There are one or two people on here who are responsible for the "degeneration" and we all know who they are, but they just do not listen to anything anyone's got to say.

stuart62, I agree.. Your suggestion that everyone should try and accept that people favour different soaps rather than attacking others for their opinion is ideal.. Unfortunately, I don't see any hope of much improvement. It seems that some users join the forum simply to cause arguments and to antagonise as many people as possible. It's an issue which seems to have flowered pretty recently.

well said Stuart62... although as right as ur observations are i doubt much will change. Not unless you have an old lamp, which when rubbed releases a genie thats willing to make your wish their command.

Thank goodness we're spared the EE v Corrie slanging matches in the H&A threads.

Nicely put I enjoy a good discussion/debate on the relative merits or otherwise of either Corrie or EE, but it's all decending into personal abuse or ridiculous threads about how one is better than the other. Some people think that to like one soap you have to hate the other and seem incapable of grasping the fact that you can love both - but also see the faults and flaw in both - and then debate them in a reasonable manner.

It really does piss me off when during a discussion on Corrie, someone comes along and starts throwing insults about like FP does. I never go around insulting soaps or other members. If i criticise a soap i back it up with a valid arguement which is what soap boards are about, discussions and debates, Not slanging matches!

I now watch both again and i will give praise where it is due and i will also criticise a soap if i want to, but i will back up that criticism with valid argument.

I agree completely. I have never been one to slag off Corrie at every single chance. I've just tried to stand up for Eastenders, but more then that ask users just to stop the same old jokes and phrases. Someone decides they don't like Eastenders anymore - great, then just say it when its appropriate, not at every single chance.

And also (and I think it's the main point) Corrie is much much better than EE.

I agree. I think that most people probably watch both soaps. What annoys me is that a few of the people who criticise Coronation Street don't actually watch the show and so they couldn't possibly have a valid argument with others. I don't watch Emmerdale but if I was disagreeing with someone who disliked Corrie and liked Emmerdale I'd have no valid reason whatsoever to criticise the show, the characters or the cast members.
