This bowls storyline is bringing out some funny remarks about past Corrie greats, first Elsie Tanner and now Ena Sharples

Brilliant.

It's very enjoyable to watch, the final scene tonight was brilliant, Jack and Vera are still tremendously important and loved characters

That line kind of reminds me of one by Hilda Ogden many moons ago...well as far as "red-blooded" goes...

Bet has a new dress with a plunging neckline (to say the least)

Hilda - "By heck it's got a low back hasn't it?"

Bet - "That's the front Hilda"

Hilda - "By, I'm suprised you don't catch your death"

Bet - "I don't feel cold petal. When I wear necklines like that, the temperature around me shoots up to near tropical. Am I right Stan?"

Hilda - "What's it got to do with Stan?!"

Bet - "Wouldn't you like to think that your husband was a normal red-blooded male Hilda?"

Hilda - "I'd like to think it yeh, but in thirty odd years of marriage I've never found no evidence of it"

Sorry I couldn't resist...

Yep. Im so glad we have been seeing a lot of them over the past week. Vera has had me in hysterics thinking Jack is having an affair, and then saying she doesn't like the look of that trollop Ida as she is someone her Jack would go after! LOL.

I have to say I've really enjoyed the Corrie womens bowls storyline, its brought out some very funny dialogue from the girls and Jack. Corrie is superb at doing the comedy. I finally got to see last Monday's episodes and they were fantastic! Poor Hayley, an what a twist that Eda Bagshaw used to be Eddie Bagshaw lol Excellent writing.

Yea that was great! It was a woman playing the role though wasn't it? Cause when jack said that she was really Eddie, there was a slight angle where she looked like a man with a wig on.

It's not my imagination is it, but since the 'haunted cabin' storyline there's been quite a few references to 'old street' residents.

It's one of those clips that's always on at like anniversaries etc I pick up some real rubbish!

Has anyone seen the kids show "Balamory" ?

I'm starting to think that one of the Corrie writers has an obsession with it. The other week Tracy asked Ciaran "What's the story in Balamory?" and now it's quite a coincidence that the woman playing "Edie Bagshaw" is called Carol Macready...and one of the Balamory characters is "Edie Macready". This isprobably me just being a real saddo!

Yes Ben, it is. You can't surely have given that show the time of day? I hear the song sometimes and it reduces me to tears, surprised I haven't broken the TV!

Yes I know what you mean. The only references that I can think of are Mavis, Elsie Tanner, Ena Sharples and Ena's daughter Vera Lomax. During the "Haunted Kabin" storyline Emily gave her story of what the other side of the Street used to be like, Baldwin's first factory, Community Centre, Mission of Glad Tidings Hall etc.

I wonder who else will be popping into scripts?

It is what? Me being a saddo?

I only started watching it when I realised that I had actually been to the place that they film it when I was about 5 or 6!

How could I forget!

Annie Walker needs a mention I think...Betty meeting "Julie" the new barmaid could be a perfect opportunity

Lol, I wondered that too. If is was a man (it wasn't, was it?) then they had me fooled...

It was a woman. The irony of her complaining about Hayley being in the team when she was a transexual all along herself !

I got a bit confused when Jack mentioned Ena Sharples though. Didn't the Duckworths come along after she'd gone?

However, it certainly was a hilarious storyline. Corrie at its best.

Mrs Sharples was still making appearances on the Street right up until 1980. Although the Duckworths only moved onto Coronation Street itself in 1983, Vera had been a familiar face on the show since 1974, and Jack first appeared in 1979. Fair enough the Duckworths weren’t Ena’s best friends, but as regulars in the Rovers they would have surely become accustomed to the sight of Mrs Sharples and the ‘air net.
