I think you're making it up as you go along now.
The only physical buttons on the Motorola Xoom (the one I have) are the on/off/standby button on the back, and the volume + - buttons on the left side.

The only physical similarity I can see is the way the bezel and screen are integrated in the one glass front, but you are begining to see that on some TVs now as well.

I presume if Apple win this case, the competitors will be limited to producing circular or triangular tablets?

As I said before. The whole thing is just plain stupid on Apple's part. I've got no problem with them genuinely trying to protect a patent, but this does not seem to be that at all. They are just trying to hamstring their competitors to try to get a monopoly in the market.

I have an Apple laptop that I'm very fond of, but I would have to think long and hard before I ever bought another Apple product, because of their disgraceful conduct here.

great selective reading

the point i'm trying to make is that the public don't yet know the full facts, yet people are drawing conclusions already

and even when the facts are known, how much of the public would understand them to be able to draw an appropriate conclusion?

not buying a companies products because of something like this is just ridiculous. buy something because you like or want it, not for some daft reason

What about the people who like and want to buy the Samsung Galaxy tab?
Apple are trying to say No! You can't have it!

This is one of the reasons why I dont like apple. They should be beating the competition by producing superior products, instead they chose to go through the courts. Its hardly surprising, as over just the last year apple have lost 20% of the tablet market to its rivals.

A couple of good reads on this android police and fosspatents. Apple have now also gone after the Xoom. All very poor, hopefully they will lose customers over this debacle.

As for the poster who said apple produce premium products...err no they dont. The produce very good products and charge a premium price...there is a difference.

you can just go and buy one if you want one. run to pc world or dixons or comet today and buy one

do you want one yourself? and would you actually go and pay £400 for it? if you do, what are you waiting for?

All this suing is just Apple flapping about in a panic...

They have already lost the phone market to superior devices, and now they are fighting uselessly with patent lawsuits to stop themselves from getting overtaken again...

The very fact that they have resorted to this shows how vulnerable they are in the market...Instead of filing meaningless lawsuits about how the Xoom and Galaxy Tab look like the iPad...they should spend their time developing quality products...

The prices they charge for the devices they sell really aren't justifiable...

The Galaxy Tab 10.1 is akin to an iPad 4 in terms of technology, and yet is on sale now at a lower price point...Apple are running scared and these desperate lawsuits are not the way forward for them...

The tablet market is heading the same way as the phone market, with Android leading the way, and Apple playing second fiddle...

Hopefully this'll drive Apple to stop making Fisher-Price products and start making actually powerful devices...

As I've said, I already have the Motorola Xoom, so I've no need to run anywhere.

It's in 3 or 4 years time, when I want to replace it, that I'm worried about.
If Apple have bullied the other manufacturers out of the tablet PC market and the iPad is the only player in town, then I'll be stuck with that.
(Nothing wrong with the iPad as such, but I didn't want to be tied to iTunes)

Also there would be no incentive for Apple to produce a better tablet. You need competition and market forces for that.

Don't worry, there will be plenty of alternatives to the iPad.

But if Apple get their way you won't be able to do that soon.

I agree that companies should protect their products if they are being copied. But there are only so many different ways you can design a tablet before they all start looking like each other.

Apple are always trying to look like they are the good guys, better than the likes of MS. But this just smacks of dirty tactics to protect their sales and limit the choices the consumers has.

The thing is, they shouldn't have anything to worry about. If you head down to the shops with the intention of getting an iPad, I don't see you walking out with an Android tablet no matter how good they are.

Something VERY interesting has developed, it seems Apple may have submitted doctored images to the court:

Apple may have submitted flawed evidence against Samsung in Europe

Why am i not surprised?

Macrumors strikes me as the 'moderate wing' of Apple fans.

3d holographic images more than likely.

Hopefully Dennis Gabor's family will sue apple for everything.

The 10.1 form factor screen is ideal for web surfing and watching videos. It's maybe a bit big for reading books, and it's really too small for newspapers and magazines.

Not sure how a holographic newspaper would look?
But a flexible or folding screen would be useful, to cover all bases.

The 10.1 tab has a size aspect ratio of 1.46 and is extremely close to both Berliner and UK Tabloid newspaper format sizes.

I would agree with the above point of simply removing the screen from these devices. From a user point of view different screens for different uses would be the way to go.

The ban has now been lifted in Europe except for Germany.

You naughty so and so

Glad common sense prevailed throughout the EU although the press did misinterpret the ruling and reported it was a EU wide ban whereas the German court had no jurisdiction anywhere outside Germany.

So why did the court 'lift the EU wide ban' and why is it a temporary lift, apart from Germany?

Though I'm sure its quite common for the press to mislead in preference to backtrack.
