T-Mobile UK
Hi there,
Is it true that T-Mobile UK have capped data speeds to around 384kbps? If so, how do you get increased speeds Thanks |

I have internet included with my phone, as do many others so no you dont have to pay for web'n'walk. The max speed is about 1.8/9 MB. And it performs excellently, very fast and consistent compared to other networks i have seen.

If you're going for a £25+ contract tariff with "Truly Unlimited" internet, beware that your speed will indeed be capped to 3G speeds with no HSDPA speeds even where possible...

They say it's not capped as there is no download limit however the speed unfortunately is capped around 384kbps as you thought.

Fair usage
They also cap it to that level if you go over there fair usage policy. And if you continue to exceed it, they reduce it again until you cut down.

With 'truly unlimited' they claim there is no fair usage policy; in my case I'd barely started to use the phone, found even simple news websites were slow to load and decided to cancel my contract.

I have a couple of friends with iPhone on T-Mo and they always tell me texts to them are delayed. Texts to Voda, Orange and Three from my O2 phone seem to arrive straight away.

Do your texts arrive late (texts sent to you from others?) as I seem to have probs with them being delayed |

Yes, I'm on O2. I'm not aware of any delays. I get everything as soon as it's sent.

Personally i feel that T-Mobile and Orange's network are both in a dire condition and despite being told time and time again that the networks are converging nothing has yet happened.
It looks like 3 are also heavinly reliant on the netework sharing agreement and are suffering as people migrate from them as the coverage is still dire. Being on Tmobile myself compared to o2 and vodafone the signal is quite often much worse with no signal in many more places. Websites are much slower to load than o2 and vodafone. Data speeds are capped at 2mb which quite honestly youd be very lucky to get most of the time, in short avoid T-Mobile like the plague. |

T-mobile speeds are now capped at 1 meg. They used to be capped at 350k. The cap only applies to handsets not dongles. I find T-mobiles data network quite good.

thanks for that barker, i was going to move from O2 to T-Mobile...
Is T-mobile not as good as it looks then Regards I have a few friends who swear by Three as having great, fast service, but I've read numerous stories about what a total nightmare their customer service is. To be honest, right now, they all need to spend a LOT of money on upgrading their infrastructure and bandwidth, because it's clear that the rapid and widespread adoption of smartphones (and therefore data usage) has swamped them. I don't think any of the networks are providing a great service right now, so unless you have no signal where you are, you may just be better off staying with your current provider. |
