Raydon's Software
Burford
11-08-2011
I've installed this software to convert videos on my laptop to transfer to my Humax HDR.
I have imported a video file, attached a USB stick, and everything seems ok but the "Go" button to start the conversion is off the bottom of my laptop screen. There is no scroll bar and if I try to move the window upwards, as soon as I release it, it reverts back. I've tried changing the screen resolution to access the button but no joy.
Anybody else had this problem?

No, but try changing the DPI setting (to a lower value) rather than the resolution.

Cheers,
David.

That's done it. I hadn't thought of that.
Thanks David

Could someone please explain:-
1--What the software does better than Humax's
2--Is it reliable?
3--Are there any known bugs?
4--Where it is downloaded from?
5--Why Humax have not adopted it.

Try searching for "Media & File Server Bundle for the Foxsat HDR - Release 3" - this long thread and others are elsewhere - DS forum rules do not allow me to specify the URL

Your questions:
1--What the software does better than Humax's.?
It does not replace it - it adds seperate functions using established applications.
2--I it reliable?.
Yes
3--Are there any known bugs?
No.
4--Where it is downloaded from?

5--Why Humax have not adopted it.
Who knows - licensing?

The software Burford was referring to when starting this thread is for importing non-native video to the Foxsat HDR. It's named AV2HDR. Just Google for it.

Thanks REPASSAC, for your rapid & lucid reply.

These extra functions, are they all to do with file handling to & from a PC running Linux?

Yes. The “PC” is the Humax HDR which becomes a networked Linux server. I use the software for streaming video to my Windows PC, and sending programmes recorded using my PC satellite card, to the HDR.

Thanks robbie2 & ray-don for you replies.
Its clearer now.
My internet is very poor, 340kbps, too slow for watching i-player. So I'll wait until that is improved.

It's much more about sharing things on your LAN which MUST be running at much much greater speeds.

Want to watch a movie (stored on your HDR) on your PC, another home Media equiped device?

I begin to see, I think!
Wife wants to watch a TV channel that I don't.
I go & watch an item on my PC screen that is recorded on the HDR.
Snag might be that TV enters our house usually via the Sat dish, so she would need freeview?

Or I pre-transfer my choice from HDR to PC HDD ?

Ironically if I go to a caravan site I get 5 Mbps instead of house's 0.3 Mbps

You do not need freeview or to pre-transfer recordings to your PC. Your wife can watch a live broadcast or a recording on the HDR. And at the same time on your PC you can watch something that has been recorded on the HDR, but only SD recordings as HD is encrypted and can only be watched on the HDR they were recorded on. You are not using the internet for this so it does not matter how fast or slow your internet is.
