I normally spend just under £10 a month, on 24 cans of Tiger cat food.

Just been in Poundland, and found they sell a 1Kg bag of dry cat food.

At 90g per day, that's less than £3 a month.

Result.

I probably spend about £5 a month on dry cat food buying Go Cat.

Wet cat food it depends what's on offer really, usually it's Whiskas and I spend about £15 a month on it or something.

My vet told me to steer clear of Iams and Felix cat food.

I use Science Plan which my female cats love. My Bernard is not keen on dry food at all though I buy him the oral care food (he has bad teeth) which Millie and Lucy eat for him

Science Plan is expensive but it seems to last quite a while (my cats all eat wet food too). I sometimes think the vets promote it because they can sell it (so make money) - but I generally get mine from pet shops.

It says to introduce it gradually, over 4 to 10 days.

No need.

She loves it.

One of my cats (the male) will only eat chunks in jelly - Felix senior to be precise. Once bought it in Gravy by mistake and he wouldn't touch it. Same can be said for dry food, although the female will eat either. As a result she gets Go Cat and the male gets his wish. Just for him the cost of cat food is pretty pricey for the month.

I wouldn't buy cheap food for my cats to be honest. I'm not saying I go overboard and spoil them with designer label stuff, but I'd prefer to know they were getting the right nutrients and whatnot.

Mine always have a bowl of Whiskas complete all the time. They don't actually need anything other than this, but I always give them one Felix or Whiskas pouch each in a morning as a daily treat.

I spend about £8 on dried food and about £20 on pouches per month for my two.

It says to introduce gradually as a sudden change in food can cause upset tummies.

How do you get them to gradually eat it

Cats either eat something, or they don't.

£17 every 6 weeks on Science Plan and a few pouches of wet food a week (plus Whiska's treats - 2 pots a month)

So probably in the region of £22 a month - and that is before litter which is another £22 a month!

She goes through one pack a week and one pack is £5.30

(I change her tray twice a week and top up litter a little daily!)

Bloody Waitrose stopped doing my other litter = although that was almost £4 a pop!

LOL... my vet said , if I'm going to feed a dry food to my cats then Iams was a good one to choose. I wouldn't use cheap dry food tho'
My cat feeding arrangements are a little complex... the 2 girl cats get Iamms dry food and the boy cat has a special vet diet, also dry. The dry food costs me about £25 every 5 to 6 weeks.
I feed them wet food 2 days out of 5, they prefer jelly to gravy styles but TBH with 3 cats in the house they all eat whats put in front of them otherwise they don't eat!
twice a month they don't get fed at all for one day.
I don't do litter trays, they use the big field next to my garden

Why spend that much, on something your cat is going to crap and pee on

That's my position too.

I live in the hills, so there's plenty of small wildlife, if she doesn't want to eat the food I provide.

I meant from the POV that if they don't eat it one of the others will....
And yes they are all prolific hunters and seem to enjoy supplementing their diets with fresher fare

Because the cheaper ones don't seem to keep odours at bay. I buy regular CatSan, and get through a bag a month. My two boys are out a lot, and one is always out at night so they dont use their tray much at all. PS I hate clumping litters.

Yes I agree. I prefer to buy a good quality litter. Thankfully my 2 new cats have only used the tray about twice in the past month - they're copying Bernard and going outside. I think Lucy may be using my neighbours garden from some disgruntled conversations I've overheard (probably was meant to overhear).

I was changing the litter every 2nd day but both cats were using the same tray.

I can never buy cat food in bulk because Emily is so fussy. She will like something one day then the next time I serve it to her she'll get an expression on her face, like 'not this cr*p again' and walk off.

I'm amazed at how many people let their cats dictate to them.

Mine can either eat what's put in front of her, or she can get out in the fields and feed herself.

OMG you cat neglector

I have tried to be firm in the past but she is way more stubborn than I am. I had a week when I was broke and bought her a box of Go-Cat because it was cheap. She wouldn't touch it at all, and I don't think she ate a thing for days. In the end I crumbled and borrowed money from my stepdad to buy her favoured brand It's not like I can explain or reason with her...

Maybe it's down to how it was when I was a child.

In those days, children, never mind cats, ate what was put in front of them.

If I didn't eat it, I did without.
