I've finally ditched my shoddy Humax HDR in favour of a return to Echostar (why did it take them so long to enter this market). Now I just wanted to share the parting trick Humax played on me so as to warn others.
After getting the Echostar up and running and ensuring all was OK I went through setting up all the scheduled recordings. Just to check I hadn't missed anything I fired up the HDR again, connected to another TV, but with no LNB connected. Lo and behold, the HDR refused to show me the schedule without a satellite feed connected - duh?
Oh well, glad I'm now shot of this box, goodbye Humax - forever.
As to the Echostar - only time will tell. I've used Echostar boxes before in the analogue and early digital eras, thus this was another purchase choice biased by past experience. I only hope it works out better than with Humax.
