Okay, forget the Sean business (though I didn't mind him so much in the 2nd episode), but look at the rest, it was bloody wonderful.

Blanche, Karen, Maya, Cilla, it was marvellous, so damn funny and with drama as well.
Poor Karen (Surrane Jones is such a phenomenal actress I swear she gets better each episode), this storyline is looking really good and should build up nicely.
Then you have Cilla arriving back and being as disgusting/amusing as usual, Maya being brilliantly vindictive and putting her character up another level on the psycho-villain ladder, Blanche and her fabulous little digs..

"Food's not up to much...if you ask me, Betty's losing her touch" etc

Plus that genuinely sweet Mike and Deirdre moment. Nice touch there.

All in all, total quality.

I agree. I found Sean hilarious.. Jason's expression when he started singing "Tomorrow" was just priceless. Blanche was absolutely brilliant, and for once was given as much screentime as she deserves. Cilla made no great impact on me, as usual.. As for Maya, she's really becoming a convincing nutter and no doubt will go down as one of the street's most memorable villains by the time she's finished. The Karen plot is, as you said, developing very well indeed. And it was great to see so many of the street's residents out in force. Please corrie, more of the same!

But even peoples reactions to Sean, the way they spoke, responded or looked was so true to life, that you had to laugh.

Yeah I totally agree.
Blanche and Maya were particularly on form tonight--Blanche's scathing comments towards Deirdre and the party in general were pure class and I loved Maya hiding behind the door, ornament poised for attack--she's brilliant!
I found it quite heartwarming that Tommy was looking out for little Chesney, he has got a decent side after all.

When I first saw Sean I was a bit unsure but I really like him--he looks like a promising character IMO

I agree 100% Drifter, but the Sean thing spoilt it for me, let's not dwell on that.

There was so much going on, usually one event takes the "signature" and other sub-plots follow, but tonight we had both the Sunita/Dev/Mad Maya storyline and the storyline involving Karen as the two biggies. Brilliant acting from all concerned.

The comic yet serious level involving the Battersbys/Browns was very well acted and written, and I really loved the scene with Tommy, the torch and Chesney - Tommy showed himself not just to be the pig-headed loser that we're all used to.

The comic level was again maintained by the old professional - Blanche. I'm always the one who goes a party just for the buffet Her digs at Deirdre being a bad daughter, then her apology after Karen's outburst were very well thought-out.

I loved the little "bitching" session with Betty and Liz talking about Sunita!

For one episode there was so much going on, and so many foundations laid for the progression of the Mad Maya storyline, and the one with Karen.

I agree, an I have to say I didn't mind Sean at all, Corrie tonight was absoloutely fantastic! I will agree one of the best Corrie doubles this year, a hot contender along with Fight Night well that was a treble but you know what I mean. Suranne Jones acted her socks off in it tonight, an she was fantastic and this storyline looks like its going to be a good one. I felt so sorry for her when she was mumbling to herself at the bar in the end, Nobody Loves you Karen, not God, Not your parents! awwww

I nearly died laughing when Blanche said "College, it will be full of homo sexuals" the way the word just rolled out of her mouth lol Although was slightly concerned about the Todd going to Prison bit? hmmm lol The MIke and Deirdre bit aswell was nice too. And Mad Maya returns, god there was so much going on tonight in Corrie, it was fantastic! Well done Daran you little beauty!

Apart from Sean (who just didn't work IMO - but hey, hopefully in six months or so I'll be eating my (harsh) words about him) it was a great two episodes, for all the reasons stated above, plus the completely bizzare addition of Deidre playing a mouth organ , the lovely little reference to her and Mike's previous affair was nicely done as well. And Mad Maya - well that's just warming up brilliantly.

I really liked Sean, unlike Todd and Karl he's an interesting, fun gay character

It was a good episode, but I find pretty much every ep is of a high standard recently.

Lots of funny lines. I think sometimes the writer's go a bit overboard with the 'groaning granny' bit; Blanche is OK but when Betty get's involved it can seem a bit too much. Funny though, and very much based in reality.

I don't have a problem with Sean. I can see why the initial respone to him on here is bad, but I can see that changing. I think he's bound to be very funny; although who knows why the writers thought they needed *another* camp northern character! Good promise for him sharing with Eileen and Jason as well. Loved his response to him!

So yea....good!

Exactly.. since corrie decided they just had to replace Todd with another gay character immediately. I think Sean was a good way to go. He's the direct opposite of Todd. Nice to see they're showing some variety.

I forgot Eileen was pretty good tonight too. Todd was as vacant as usual, but then nothing changes there

This was even better than the barbeque episodes with Cilla and Les etc from a while ago, which themselves were pure brilliance...

I agree, tonights episodes were definitely excellent! Cilla is probably my favourite character on the show at the mo. I just laugh whenever she speaks, she is fab! I didn't particularly mind Sean, he had a few funny bits. Maya was great as well, she is turning into a real villain!

2 brilliant episodes of Corrie again, but what else can we expect??
Blanche is just brilliant! I loved all of her scenes today, especially when she was bad mouthing the food, and then saying that she bets in a year they will be celebrating Dev's next engagement, only for her to turn around and be completely 2 faced when talking to Dev! LOL

You're right there! I can expect it to improve with every episode, as it is currently!

Suranne really pulled out all the stops tonight didn't she? The scene with Emily, the speech that made everyone uncomfortable and her slurring at the end....I thought I had seen her best when doing the whole anger thing in the Tracy/Steve storyline but her portrayal of how fragile Karen is came out beautifully tonight. I don't think it stops there, going by the spoilers there's more quality stuff coming from her.

Blanche is guaranteed to make me laugh always, no matter how homophobic she sounds! However harsh the prison sounded, she really did become part of the Sean appreciation club though! Even helpfully suggesting a B&B with a landlady who was really into Kate Bush!!

Maybe she's telling the producers they made a mistake by denying that payrise!

the producers gave her the storyline.... maybe they underestimated how good she really was. Seeing as Nikki Sanderson (Candice) has signed an £80K deal, suddenly Suranne's demands don't seem that extravagant. My main reason for watching Corrie these days is for Todd and the gay storyline. I wasn't really going to watch as much once Todd left. However, Karen and Maya storylines are proving rather enticing!!

Must agree that tonights episode was just brilliant. One of Daran Littles BEST. Even Blanche nearly had me crying telling Deidre how good she was and asking her to play the mouth organ again "After all the practise will do you good.
I also agree about Sean in the 1st episode. He was annoying in it, but come the 2nd episode I'd really warmed to him. Him and Eileen - new double act??? Antony Cotton who plays Sean does play an awfully good camp annoying get. He was the same in Queer as Folk, Burn It and that awful hairdresses series on BBC3. I'd like to see him stay in Corrie now. He's really nice in real life too. He was a waiter in 'Velvet' on Canal Street in Manchester and was really nice then.
Keep up the good work Daran, and Antony.

Absolutely loved Corrie tonight. Blanche, Deirdre, Eileen, Jason, Karen etc all played a part. Loved the new character of Sean. Have a feeling that he is going to provide some great comedy with Eileen and Jason. Blanche was hilarious too. The Mad Maya storyline and Karens meltdown are both bubbling along nicely too. Well done to all concerned.

Nor me! The bloke who picked her up at the end called her Sunita, didn't he? Whatever she does, Sunita's going to get the blame for it ....
