EE and Corrie - Both Absolutely Terrific
Tonight EastEnders' dramatic four parter and Corrie's action packed episodes were some of the best in years.
EastEnders focussed on Den and Chrissie, and Dot and Jim. Den and Chrissie had a battle of wit and then each tried to save the other - superbly sharp writing. Then Dot and Jim, the heartbreaking talk and all the emotion - a fantastic episode, shows that WITH THE RIGHT CHARACTERS AND MATERIAL EastEnders is still a very well written drama and tonights was one of the best this year. Axe those crap characters and give us more of this! Corrie tonight had two episodes. In the first Sean arrived and met back up with Todd and the stage was set for the party. Karen opened up to Eva in superb scenes. Later, Karen's speech at the party was so excellent and you can see she's hurting - this storyline is brilliant. Also, Maya's got worse and tonight when Sunita came in that was tense, especially when she had that object, ready to hit her! The whole music at the end with Deirdre playing "Amazing Grace" was good too. Plus of course the Tommy vs the Battersby's - all excellent stuff - the second episode was one of the best episodes this year. |

Yup.
EastEnders is great with the right material. And well, Corrie is just getting better, tonights episode was truly one of the most exciting, enjoyable, hilarious and dramatic this year. Extremely well done to both soaps, but Corrie really was outstanding IMO. |

Yep I agree both were fantastic, a perfect nights T.V!
More things annoyed me in Coronation St but I think this is because of the amount of characters etc and with it being 2 ep's. |

OF COURSE there was more things to be annoyed about in Coronation St with it's whole camp act and Blanche saying colleges are full of homosexuals, yes I find this annoying sorry if you really feel the need to roll your eyes at this. EastEnders on the other hands 30 MINUTES compared to just under an hour of Coro. EE featured what 4 characters? Not much to get annoyed about is there? Maybe you would like to share your opinion instead of saying BIASSSSED!"£1111!1 UR BISAassEED u LiKe EasTEndereS!!£"11 How cCAN U NOT LIekkK COIRREE!?!!!2212? |

Leave Phat Avenger alone, EastEnders is much more watchable if Sean on Corrie is anything to go by.

This all coming from the guy who's shown nothing but a biased attitude towards EastEnders landing him in arguments for the past few days...
Share my opinion? I think I did.. erm. look above? |

Share my opinion? I think I did.. erm. look above? Sorry if Coronation St isn't my favourite soap, but I am allowed to favour a different soap it's called an opinion. People have different tastes and thank god I don't have yours. If I was so biased, I wouldn't waste my time watching Coronation St. Arguments? What agruments and your one of the groupie's that call me a spin doctor. P.S |

Have to agree for once. Both soaps were at the top of their game and I loved the character of Sean in Coronation Street.

I thought EE was really good last night (haven't seen Corrie yet taped it to look at tonight). I've really gotten into the Dot Jim cancer story and last night I thought they were just so lovely together and it was so nice for Dot to realise that Jim loved her and she loved him. Its so nice to see two characters you've seen around for so long (esp Dot) and know their history etc and that allows you to have sympathy and interest in how the plot develops (this was the mistake with the Ferrarias kidney storyline).LOVED when Chrissy said all Den did since he came back to Walford was shuffle around look at the ceiling with his hands in his pockets. There were flashes of the old Den again and it was good to see.

I thought both shows were fantastic. It was like I just sunk into both shows and felt comfortable watching them both for the first time in a while.

I thought the scenes between Dot & Jim were truly great, so believeable and the writing just seemed to real, not as if the two actors were reading words off the paper. Acting was also cracking and finally gave the actor who played Jim something to get his teeth into instead of acting like the Square jester.
I have a few more problems with Den & Chrissie though. There were some funny lines, mostly from Chrissie, who I am now starting to like a lot, mostly about 'be quick, I've a bath running'. However the writing for these two was just full of too many cliches, with each of them trying to outwit each other. It's as if Tony Jordan were trying to create this really cool couple but it just didn't work. One moment, Chrissie can't give a shit about Den and then she's begging him to stay just because she told him a few home truths. I'm not saying the scenes between them were bad, I just think they tried to hard with the writing. |

God EE really was fantabulisticnesses last night, wasn't it?
![]() There were more moments when I'd be watching Den and Chrissie, and then I'd be in awe because he suddenly morphed back into old Den... t'was very strange. But that is a much better person to be, than the (as Chrissie hilariously stated) "Sighing, grunting, hands in pockets staring at the ceiling man". LOL ![]() ![]()

lol yeh I instantly thought of this forumn when she said "grunting, hands in pockets staring at the ceiling man" The amount of posters on here who have given out about Den constantly going around with his hands in his pockets, an its really annoying, glad Chrissie pulled him on up it. I was delighted to see her back, she's a character with too much potential to just let fade away now Den has left the Square for a while.
What I find funny is how she refers to Sharon, Dennis and Vicky as kids, sure Dennis and Sharon are in their 30s an not that much younger than Chrissie? |

Its good to see EastEnders produce some worthwhile drama for a change. Dot and Jim were extremely moving, while the feisty Chrissie was more than a match for Den. I just hope that is the last we see of Leslie Grantham and Den... time will tell I know!
As for Corrie, a brilliant balancing act of humour and pathos with highlights being Blanche, karen and the superb Cilla. Even the introduction of Sean did not annoy me like I thought it would. Time will tell on that one! Last night was the perfect example to proove that the success of Corrie or EE is not dependant on the failure of the other. Lets hope the BBC can start to maintain that high quality and that Corrie continue their brilliant run. We should strive to have both top soaps on top form! |

I agree with what KidA says above, except I think the only problem was Den, rather than the whole Den-Chrissie concept. The writing for her was good - but the writing for him wasn't. I assume they had to re-write his lines because originally she was going to take him back, then Leslie G got suspended so they had to give him an exit. But Den made no effort to get her back, same old grunting routine (yeh, good line, Tony J has been reading these boards ) which made no sense given his feelings for her. Maybe the writers are so p*ssed off with him they decided not to let him shine, I dunno, but it certainly wasn't his finest hour. The Dot and Jim scenes were great, as was Chrissie - Tony Jordan really gives you the feeling he knows these characters. However I suspect now it will be back to Ferreiras and gangsters
