By 2005 the Street will be suffering its worse decline in history.

Tonight's episodes were the beginning of the end...

Tonights episodes were excellent, there's been an almost unanimous praise tonight.

I'm getting rather angry with you Ben, I've always valued your opinions (in my week I've been here ... lol) but you've started going crazy about Sean. Who knows- he may grow on you..?

Give him a chance and if not, stop watching Corrie but you agreed to stop going on about it, and now look what you've done? Started a post!

Yea im getting confused as well! How can one character completely change your opinion on the soap as a whole? Not ever single soap viewer can like every single character, there ate some characters people hate and others that just irritate people as everyone is different.
Personally i didn't really like him from tonights episodes, but apart from that, tonights Corrie was fantastic!

Yeah it was brilliant tonight apart from Sean. His acting wasn't up to par but he could improve, I'm giving him a chance

Benc I'm trying very hard not to play the "is it because he is gay" card but you do seem to have gone a bit OTT about this character, going so far as saying the show is on its way to the scrap heap? Is it hell as like! One character does not and especially a new character who just started, does not define a soap. Corrie overall was fantastic tonight, Sean was a bit annoying I'll grant you but you seem to be taking it to an extreme now.

Will I too had this thought. Then I thought it might be the "is it because he is camp" card.

Has BBCblob hacked in on Benc's username?!

How can the introduction of this character cause the decline of the Street? That's a bit of an over-reaction. I don't even think he will be a main character, he will probably just be in the factory - a periphery character like Sonia. Corrie's been great the last few years but there's always characters you won't like, but that's natural.

Exactly. I am still not too keen on the Baldwins but they are turning it round a bit and Danny's affair should give them a good storyline.

Back to Sean - Was I the only one who liked him?!

I thought some parts were bad, some good with Sean.

Yeah the affair will get the Baldwins more involved and people will warm to them, Debra will show off her acting skills.

Yeah he wasn't half bad.

I'm sure I'll warm to him, Corrie's characters are all good

As has been said here many a time, the Battersby's were widely hated when they entered the show, but now most people like them!
One character will not cause the downfall of a show, it has all been discussed before during past EE debates of how that will happen: bad writing, crap storylines, crap acting, crap characters among otherthings.
Corrie doesn't suffer from any of these! Sean maybe bad in the acting stakes but we will need to see how he progresses in Corrie over time.

I really really like him in the 2nd episode. I never liked him in the previous episode when it was Karls birthday on Canal Street. It wasn't Corrie. But by the time episode 2 had come along I loved him. Him and Eileen were brilliant together. I can see the chararcter working really well. I'd love to see him stay.

And Benn, have you been drinking of something tonight??? Not your usual posting.

I thought Sean was very funny. Yes, I can see how he could become very annoying if on screen all the time, but one character won't make me change my mind about the show as a whole.

Yes, Benc's posts do seem strange all of a sudden. It's so unlike him not to reply to people with a detailed analysis as to why he so dislikes the guy. We might understand better if he did.

Especially when Ben said in another thread just hours ago............

I agree 100% Drifter, but the Sean thing spoilt it for me, let's not dwell on that.

There was so much going on, usually one event takes the "signature" and other sub-plots follow, but tonight we had both the Sunita/Dev/Mad Maya storyline and the storyline involving Karen as the two biggies. Brilliant acting from all concerned.

The comic yet serious level involving the Battersbys/Browns was very well acted and written, and I really loved the scene with Tommy, the torch and Chesney - Tommy showed himself not just to be the pig-headed loser that we're all used to.

The comic level was again maintained by the old professional - Blanche. I'm always the one who goes a party just for the buffet Her digs at Deirdre being a bad daughter, then her apology after Karen's outburst were very well thought-out.

I loved the little "bitching" session with Betty and Liz talking about Sunita!

For one episode there was so much going on, and so many foundations laid for the progression of the Mad Maya storyline, and the one with Karen.

I'm sure we'll be getting a full and frank reason for why Corrie is suddenly going down the pan because of one character in due course. Its on Ben's To Do list!

After only two episodes it's not easy to give a full opinion, maybe need to give him more time, but last night I thought: great character, great lines, dreadful actor. I only hope he improves.

I think you've gone over the top there Benc. I agree Sean doesn't fit, and the actor is rubbish, but it doesn't spoil the whole soap for me. I've despised Les Battersby since day one, and think the actor is the worst to ever walk the cobbles, but I've managed god knows how many years of his 'shouty' acting style, with him the principal in (too) many plots, without the rest of the soap being ruined for me. I may warm to Sean, though I doubt it, but to say the whole soap is declining because of one character is a slight ( ) exageration.

Of course it is; it's ridiculous.

His first speech in the Kabin wasn't very good - hammy and over-acted. But he must have been incredibly nervous and it wasn't an easy scene to act. I thought he did get better, although his character is a bit OTT and very irritating so far. But I CAN see potential there - he started to warm on me towards the end, and once he settles down and gets into it I think he'll be OK. I can see some good comedy coming up between him and Eileen and I'm wiling to give him the benefit of the doubt and see how it pans out.

I agree, his first scene in the Kabin I would say would be quite a difficult for a debut scene and he would have been quite nervous. I thought he did ok though.

How funny was it when he went "Oh my mum has no idea about me!" an Eileen was like, "Really?" lol

I really don't know how anyone can say that, it's still got great writers and producers nothings changed except a character. There are still loads of fantastic storylines coming up (except Ashley & Claire) so I can't see there being a big problem.

So give it a rest it's bad enough seeing negative Enders posts without Corrie one's! This forum is really depressing.
