OK, different genre, different era, different legacy, different impact, different image, different audience.I don't see how you can compare these acts.

they both have an impressive back catalogues. i can see where the comparison has come from. probably to do with i think, with their huge record sales. although, that is probably where the comparisons end!

personally i love both these bands. i couldn't really chose between the two.

At the time people didn't have much respect for ABBA, in fact the youth were into Punk, New Wave etc and ABBA were a bore yet somehow they have suddenly become icons

PS, I'm a Kinks fan myself and if I had to choose I'd go for The Beatles being a zillion percent better than ABBA.

I like both. Both were fantastic in their own genres, though I'd personally prefer The Beatles

does that not tell you something? even at the time they were considered naff, untrendy and the complete opposite of was happening musically!

yet, they sold truck loads of singles and even more albums. they were a huge success against all the odds! in all honesty. i don't believe that they are held in high regard, for misplaced nostalgic reasons.

the creative song writing team behind abba wrote some of the best music ever. they still do.

Just thought I'd reply to this post as I'm also a fan of The Kinks. I also like both The Beatles and Abba - some superb songs. However as The Kinks and The Beatles are amongst my fave bands, I'd have to say that I prefer The Beatles to Abba. This takes nothing away from Abba as they've done plenty of excellent songs for my liking.

is the op asking for a personal opinion or a more fact based one?

time has a strange effect on perception, this question would never have been posed in the abba years... its a no brainer.

whilst some people might prefer abba on a personal level, and abba were huge creating some of pops best music, they were nowhere near as inovative nor influencial as the beatles. the beatles beat abba on every level...

Yes, although Lennon and Mccartney wrote a lot of great songs that, for me, are better covered by other artists, such as The Four Tops' Eleanor Rigby, or Ray Charles version; Matt Monro's Yesterday, Barbara Dickson's A day in the Life..

Nooooooo! But I can't stand ABBA so my opinion's probably void.

As someone has said the Beatles were considered cool during their era, Abba were considered naff during theirs and have had to wait until now to gain credibility.

It is a sign of how people's view of Abba has changed that a question like this can be even asked let alone be taken with any seriousness.

I guess that means that there is still hope for the likes of the Saturdays

Or maybe people have become more daft.

If it wasn't for the Beatles, Abba would never have existed so it's a moot point.

I dunno if 'better' is the right word, they're certainly more important than The Beatles as far as I'm concerned.

I like some of ABBA's music but IMO they are no where near as good as The Beatles nevermind being better than them.
