For people like me who grew up in the 90s, you can't have a thread about girl groups without the mighty Brownstone:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?nomobile=1&v=5LGiqArSDlc this is what you call real harmonizing. I still hope for another album from them but I doubt it will ever happen

The Saturdays just seem to get worse with every ****ing single. They peaked with their first album and will never do anything better.
Higher, Notorious & All Fired Up aka their latest 3 singles are all all kinds of fabulous. |

Heart - Ann and Nancy Wilson - have always been my favourite 'girl band', in fact one of my favourite bands anyway.
They've had lots of great songs - Crazy On You, Barracuda, Alone, Magic Man. Quote:
How about the Go-Go's ?
Also love Bananarama. They had some great songs like Cruel Summer, King of the Jungle, Shy Boy and Robert De Niro's Waiting. |

Girls Aloud, Bananarama, The Saturdays, Spice Girls, Atomic Kitten ....
There's been quite a few girl groups over the years including the ones I've just mentioned. So which girl groups or songs of theirs do you like? Are there any girl groups (or their songs) not mentioned above that you like? I personally like Girls Aloud (some fun feel-good pop songs) including 'Can't Speak French', 'Sound of the Underground', 'Rolling Back The Rivers in Time' and 'Call the Shots' and many more. ![]() I like the following songs by The Saturdays which are 'Up', 'Forever is Over' and 'Issues'. Although The Spice Girls were of course very successful, I just never took to any of their songs at the time and still can't get into any of them. Atomic Kitten have never really appealed to me either. I also think Bananarama have had a string of fab songs too such as 'Robert de Niro's Waiting', 'Shy Boy', 'Cruel Summer', 'Really Saying Something' and a couple more. ![]() I'll also give a mention to Bangles but I'd say they're more of a band than girl group. 'If She Knew What She Wants' is my fave of theirs. Funnily enough I've never taken to any of the 'boy bands' that have been around. I do tend to go for male vocals though but in the sense of solo singers and bands. The Bangles' Walk Like an Egyptian is my fave song from the whole of the 80s and, apart possibly from the Velvelettes' Needle in a Haystack, is my fave song by a girl band of all-time. The Supremes were quite good, not so much for Baby Love, but for The Happening and You Keep Me Hanging On. From about 10 years ago were Bellefire, best known for Perfect Bliss and their cover of U2's All I Want is You, which met with The Edge's approval! |

Girls Aloud fans seem to forget that the Sugababes have sold MORE albums than them.
As for Saturdays. One cant help but laugh at their dire album sales over the years...What a joke of a band. Nice songs though. |

I generally don't like girl groups anymore. I liked Spice Girls when I was younger, but the only girl groups to grab me after that were Destiny's Child and Sugababes (1.0-2.0). I kind of liked All Saints but wouldn't say I was a big fan - just liked some of their songs.

The Runaways or The Slits. Tough choice. Rock v Punk. Joan Jett v Ari Up. I'll go for The Runaways.
But I do like a bit of DC. |

I enjoyed the documentary on girl groups on BBC2 last night. They featured most of the ones I liked but omitted the Bellestars and Bellefire, and Heart come to think of it. Mind you, Tameside Radio featured the Bellestars on The Show that Time Forgot this lunchtime.
Regarding TOTP2, I'd have much preferred the Bangles shown performing Walk Like an Egyptian to Manic Monday. I was encouraged by the good ending with the Saturdays and their 4th best single, Forever is Over. |

I am a big girl group fan. My favourite groups are:
Girls Aloud Spice Girls Sugababes (I actually like all versions of the band) Eternal All Saints Atomic Kitten Alisha's Attic (not really a group but a duo made up of 2 sisters but I used to really love their music) The Saturdays Destiny's Child Honeyz En Vogue PussyCat Dolls When I was a lot younger I also liked Cleopatra and B*witched, but have outgrown them now. |

Banarama were my favorite girl group. It was just a pity they couldn't really sing as they were years ahead of their time and even Madonna nicked their early 'look'
http://www.pure80spop.co.uk/Images/p...ananarama2.jpg Everything was done on the cheap. If they'd had the investment and have put on shows like the Spice Girls they'd have been massive. |
