My favourite girlband of all time are the Sugababes, and I like EVERY version of the group personally, they all bring something different, whether it be the look, the voice, and the moves.

From about 10 years ago were Bellefire, best known for Perfect Bliss and their cover of U2's All I Want is You, which met with The Edge's approval!

You've just jogged my memory!! They really should've got more recognition as Keep Your Head Up and Echo were really good songs.

Of more recent acts, I liked Misteeq, who my niece got me into. The Saturdays are ok too.
But my alltime favourite? The Supremes always and forever. |

I guess most people here don't go back too far but somebody did mention The Supremes.
I have records by The Crystals ('Da Doo Ron Ron', 'Then He Kissed Me'), The Shangri-Las ('Leader of the Pack'), The Shirelles ('Will U still love me tomorrow?' - greatest girls' song of all time) and Martha and the Vandellas ('Nowhere to run') all from the 60s and all great groups. Then there was Clout ('Substitute'), a South African group and they all played guitars. Somebody should cover that song. Labelle, The Slits and The Belle Stars were a bit more radical but worth a listen though you seldom her any of them mentioned these days. Sister Sledge do get mentioned because of the classic 'We Are Family' . Of the girl groups since the 90s, En Vogue, TLC, Destiny's Child, The Spice Girls and The Sugarbabes are the best. Little Mix might get added to that if they can do something a little different. I only wish more of the girl groups played guitars or synths. |

I think Bellefire were Irish. I have Perfect Bliss on my iPod - it's a good song! Did they have any albums?

Bananarama I suppose was the first girl band I liked. Songs I liked of theirs were more from their Stock, Aitken and Waterman era. I was a massive Madonna fan though so I could take or leave them. I was also a Kylie snob. She didn't really do live back in the day, at least not well. I used to sing along to her on the radio though, while slagging her lack of talent off to her fans at school.
![]() I liked the Bangles a bit. I picked up their album at the school fair. I used to think of my crush at the time and imagined being really up front about how I felt while listening to Walking Down Your Street. I liked Eternal quite a bit. I preferred them after Louise left as it goes. I think it gave them a more soulful sound. I was very in to r n b in the early 90's and I liked girl groups like Brownstone, Jade, Kut Klose, Total, TLC. I still love 90's r n b. The Spice Girls made me wish I wasn't pushing 20. I knew much younger girls liked them and I felt too young to be a fan. I loved their feisty characters. Yes I know a lot of it was gimmick but I loved it. Ginger was my favourite. She was opinionated and mouthy and like me didn't know when to shut up. All Saints were up next. I wasn't really attracted to their image but I liked a couple of their tracks. Destiny's Child were gorgeous and could sing without a doubt. It was cool to like them no matter how old you were. I've not been a big fan of Beyonce since the group went their separate ways, but the woman has a brilliant voice and she's a fab performer. I like some of Kelly's solo stuff. It's generally a bit more uplifting. I really liked Misteeq. I was very in to UK garage and I bought their first album. Girls Aloud were I suppose another group I wished I'd had around when I was younger. I liked a few of their songs but I only bought their best of album. I liked a fair few songs by the Sugarbabes but I picked up the tension within the group and didn't feel I really knew the members. Never really liked the Pussycat Dolls. I didn't find their image empowering or their songs and videos. The Saturdays seem to be able to sing but once again, I don't find their image is one of sisterhood. |

I do quite like girl bands, actually - All Saints, Girls Aloud, Sugababes & The Sats are probably my favourite recent ones, but I was a massive Mini Viva fan too, so sad we never got to hear their album.

Eternal were brilliant. Their GH is perhaps one of my most treasured albums i have.
They were like a British En vogue. For me, TLC are the ultimate followed closely by En Vogue. Eternal are not far behind and I did love All Saints when I was younger. |

Ah yes Changing Faces -stroke you up and fooling around are good tunes. I should also add Xscape to my list . They had some slick harmonies. Their version of who can I run to by The Jones Girls is beautiful.

Xscape were great. Do you remember a short lived girl group called Sista? Think they had connections to Jodeci and Missy Elliot was a member. They did a track called Brand New

Actually this is the version I meant to post. Missy does sound more prominent in the other link.
