iPhone syncing help

Last night I had a problem with itunes and ended up having to re-install it and then restoring everything on my phone.

Cutting a long story short, I can't get everything back on it that was on it before. When I try to sync it says there isn't enough room for my music and asks if I want to delete enough photos and videos to make room. As I'd already deleted all of them (over 2,000) that wouldn't have helped.

Looking at the bar on the syncing screen that tells you how many MB of apps, photos, music etc I have, it tells me that I have 7MB of 'other'. I have no idea what 'other' is and can't understand this because at that point there was absolutely nothing on the phone except what it came with originally!

So, can anyone tell me what counts as 'other' please?

It's a 16MB 3gs if that is relevant.

Other would include documents, caches, saved preference files etc. If you have apps that create stuff, like calendar, contacts, documents, games with save states etc, that will easily add up to 7MB of data.

There were no apps on there at the time. It had been restored back to its original state.

Check you are only syncing what you think you are syncing, in the past I have been caught out like that because I was also syncing feature films as well. Also are you now trying to sync everything be it apps/music/podcasts..... Where before you where only syncing a select number of them

Hi Stephen. Thanks for replying.

I've never downloaded any films onto my phone. All I was trying to do was get the music on it that was on it before (approx 8mb on a 16mb capacity phone) but can't because of this 7mb of 'other'.

All I wanted to know was what that was so that I could delete it if possible.

Yes I was trying to put all the music back on at once.
