I love Sam Womack and have heard her singing before but dare I say it, what I have heard from television of her singing for SP I really do not like it. They played a extract on our local radio the other day and one of the presenters I think felt the same as me. The whole nasal thing which I am guessing is to sound American comes off dreadful. The classically trained male singer is far superior to her and it does show a bit. It is not that she is a bad singer because I have heard her sing in other things but she really does not suit the music for me. I love musicals and many different genres of music I just feel this is not for her. Like I said its not that she is out of tune or anything, I simply do not like the sound. I would love to see Sam sing without having to sound a certain way because naturally she sounds much nicer.”
I totally get where you are coming from. I've never seen South Pacific before and have only watched Sam in theatre so I have nothing to compare to where as you do having seen it in New York with the fab Kelli O'Hara.
From what I've seen/heard I think she's doing quite well with the American accent and think it must be hard work to sing with the twang still in her voice.
