The reason I was so disappointed with the rape reveal was that it wasn’t focused on Ronnie at all.
The reveal itself was the episode when everything was shouted at and the aftermath of that was about Peggy and Roxy.
I would have liked the focus to have been Ronnie and also more on her relationship with Jack.
How did she feel after this secret came out? This was now Ronnie laid bare, with all the walls coming down and everything she had kept closed off out in the open.
Having Jack find out wasn’t part of her plan so how did she feel. Did she feel ashamed, did she blame herself, did she feel dirty and was she worried what her fiancé made of it.
Guilt and shame is associated a lot with rape/sexually abused victims. A lot of them feel they are to blame and that it must have been something they did to bring this on themselves. Some might have intimacy issues etc.
I think they should have focused on Ronnie, not Roxy or Peggy. Yes they had to explore their reactions too but it shouldn’t have been just about them.
They covered Roxy and Peggy’s journey on getting to accept that it was the truth but not Ronnie dealing with it and most importantly Jack.
Whether one likes Ronnie and Jack or not, Jack was one of the most important players in this storyline and in the aftermath of the rape reveal, yet that whole dynamic was ignored completely.
I feel it was all used and rushed off as a plot for Peggy’s exit rather than used and explored properly with Ronnie in mind. Imo it was all rushed so that the whole thing including Jack’s paralysis was over and done with by September, for when Ronnie was to reveal her pregnancy just before she was off the screen for 12 weeks before she returned for the wedding.
And then off for another 5 or six weeks. Back just at the neck of time for her baby to die and for the swap storyline to begin.
