SO late to the party!! Only watched WDYTYA? last night!

I did enjoy the show although the editing felt like we didn't get to see "enough."
Obviously Sam got more info that what we saw, and it does need to be edited down to an hour's show, but when it comes to Sam I'd happily take two hours of nosey parking on Sam's history/family life

When she was in NY, she walked down this street I went down and I ended up squeeing into my pillow lol.

What does everyone think of Sharon's return?
I didn't buy into the hype and I'm glad I didn't... and her as a mother seems so unnatural to me.

I cannot picture Ronnie and Sharon in the square at the same time. Not to say there is no room for both of them. Just.. I don't know.
Well I can picture them clashing a bit. Both quite fiesty and I would think Phil would listen to Ronnie more than Sharon. I think.
But I am going by "old Ronnie" pre Danielle.

I disagree because Phil has to keep Shirley sweet, he is pushing Sharon away but she is the love of his life. Ronnie is a cousin he never really stuck for. But if Shirley was not a problem Sharon would come first. He risked his life for her with Johnny, also in the first Vic fire and in Sharongate he was the one who pushed for Grant to know and them to marry. Back then Grant really was everything to him throw it away from Sharon speaks volumes. I just could never see him doing it for Ronnie, Ben no doubt, not Ronnie nope.
Sharon was short changed on her return as they gave her less than 15 minutes compared to some getting 45 in 3 episodes. Plus it was on location with characters we never met. So no tension or build up it did not work. Now she is back on the square its better.

I found them different ladies whom I loved for different reasons. Ronnie put her baby up for adoption, whereas Sharon herself was adopted. I actually would find a friendship very realistic compared to Tanya. I never bought there is not room for both. Sharon to me as a mother comes across fine as a mother. LD herself said she is grieving so she replaces it with one night stands and empty life. Ronnie coped by in the end extreme measures. So as much as I thought Sharon was short changed, Ronnie was more short changed by that babyswap. And I missed the old Ronnie who was not definded by children dying and using methods to hold on to her man. I never bought Ronnie and Jack, she had so much more chemistry with other men especially Max.

Sadly I can not see SM returning. And I am not sure I want her too after the terrible way they treated her. LD is like SM and never gets put up for awards in favour of the likes of JW when in my view Sam is far better actress then Jessie. Because of life comittments I cant get out to see many shows so for selfish reasons I would like her to get on another television show. It was lovely seeing WDYTYA but that was a one off and I am missing Sam even more after that.

I was always very indifferent to her return as I didn't think much of her in the stint I saw last time.

I think her return storyline is really stupid and OTT. Her reason for staying in Walford simply isn't there, so as such feels very forced. All I kept thinking since her return is how much easier it is for Ronnie to be brought back in comparison and in a very understated, natural way. Just simply to see Roxy would be good enough reason.

Also I kept comparing the two and thought that Ron would have never fallen into a stranger's bad like Sharon did with Jack. I loved how much Ronnie made Jack work to win her when she arrived.

They should really ease down on Sharon's make up and fake tan. There is glamorous and there is total fake.

Sharon has one night stands as a unhealthy way to fill the void of her grief, just as Ronnie who had many unprotected no less to get pregnant. To say she would have never fallen into a strangers bed is simply untrue she was doing plenty of her sleeping her way around in a bid to get pregnant. I think they were both messed up for different reasons.
I hate how TPTB made Ronnie so weak and clinging on to Jack till the end and then ended it predictably. I even said on here she will go to prison, refuse to see him and divorce him. I am partly glad Sam got out when she did they never appeciated her and I never understood putting Jessie forward for awards and not Sam. Maybe I am biased but thought Sam was far better than Jessie.

I don't know. Maybe I am biased for Ronnie and you a bit bias for Sharon. The way I saw it is Sharon lost Dennis 6 years ago. Is that still the reason why she slept with a total stranger within minutes of meeting him? Fair enough. They are two different characters and don't have to measure against each other, nor does it make one better than the other.
So on the argument of their differences, I feel that if the circumstances were the same Ronnie wouldn't have done it.

I totally agree about Sam and Jessie, but I suppose I am biased too. For me Sam was superior throughout the storyline and outshone Jessie each time. If one of the female leads should have been put forward for awards, that should have been Sam.

Letitia Dean has confirmed in interviews the whole reason she behaves this way is because she is still grieving, has told herself she is over it but is not at all. I have worked with people going through bereavement in various stages being a MVS (murder victim survivor) can change how it works and its not unheard of 20, 40 etc years later your still grieving. In fact many have said to me it upsets them they are expected to be over it by now as for them it is not the case.

You notice I posted in here long before Sharon returned or was confirmed too. I love Ronnie always have just not with Jack. She was always the better actress and I felt there was other avenues to explore than baby dramas/swaps, family members getting pregnant by her man like some tacky Jeremey Kyle side show she was worth so much more than that.
But like Sharon I see her faults and reasons for them. Ronnie slept around to get pregnant because of her grief which manifested itself in different ways, so that was all I was pointing out that she did sleep with men she hardly knew like Owen she slept with him the day she met him. Maybe she would not have behaved the same but she has slept with men she does not know. But I am not judging her for it anymore than Sharon. I can totally see why.

I am biased towards Ronnie too as I love her and always preferred her over Kat. I am certain she was the better actress. And I think TPTB showed clear favourtism to Jessie over Sam. And as much stick I give Scott Maslen he was a better actor than Jessie was in the aftermath too. I actually thought she was the weakest of the 4 parents invovled.

I haven't read any interviews so I believe what you say Angelic Princess. I am so detached from EE's characters at the moment. There is no one I care much about, just Jack and Roxy and Phil a little because of the link to Ronnie, so having a new character that may be interesting is good. The return storyline hasn't worked for me but hopefully it will change. I find Letitia a bit hammy too so that distracts a little but maybe I will get used to it and I wish they would get rid of the shiny make up and barbie doll hair. I wish she looked more natural but again is early days.

I agree. Sam, Scott and Shane were all better than Jessie.
Scott actually gave some of his best acting to date.

I think I will like Jack with Sharon. She is the only female in EE at the moment who would be believable as his sexual interest. Although it is a bit weird as it must remind him so much of Ronnie and maybe that is by a large the reason for the attraction. They will probably put Sharon and Phil together but I would actually like to see a Jack and Sharon romance. It is much better than this Jack having threesomes. As for his children I don't see how the hell they can sort it out to give his character back some credibility. Hadn't they killed James off I would say killing Richard off would have gone a long way to doing so.

I agree with this. I think Sam is done with EE. It's a shame because I'd love her to come back even for a few short eps, just to tie up loose ends an that. She could mention she is living near by - she doesn't want to be too far away from her son's grave/Roxy & Amy etc - but needed to make her peace with the square and perhaps people in it.
Or something along those lines. I take that over "she's released from prison and gone to Spain" sorta line from Roxy.

I too want Sam on another TV show - it's not selfish. It is hard to get out and see shows.

I muchly agree. I thought the hype was so not needed. She return amidst a huge storyline hitting it's peak. Why? I didn't care that she came back. I wasn't "Ooh Sharon is back." More: "What's Shirley going to do next?"
I hate that Sharon is mourning Dennis one minute and then flirting/kissing with Jack the next. I get it, just don't like it.

BIB - Me too. I may be stating this incorrectly, but it was nice to see a grown woman making a man she recently met work to win her over rather than giving in to his doey eyes and falling into bed with him straight away.
(Trying to think of any other female characters that have done this and can't think of any.)

However considering how bad the continuity is in EE these days I doubt we would even get a line to acknowledge that she has come out of prison and moved on, let alone an appearance of any sort.


BIB and to think that we lost Ronnie for this caricature of a character that Kat has become, is even more infuriating.

BIB 2 - The Kat now is barely recognisable from the Kat I knew and loved first stint.

Hey, just wanted to join thread as a new ronnie/Sam fan.

I always liked the character of ronnie but it's only now I realised how much I loved her and my god do I miss her in the show now. I mean to call her a tragic heroine is an understatement but she was just given to much to take and it's a credit to Samantha that she became such a great character that you rooted for. Personally she is my favourite and I really hope she comes back one day she really is needed

Ronnie and Sam Womack were shafted at the total pro Moon stance they took. I personally am glad she left what they did to the character and total lack of respect for her talent just annoyed me so much. I mean seriously how many times did they put forward Jessie Wallace for Best Actress and not Sam Womack? But one time she did get put forward for "Sexiest" female which is not only a joke a award but down right insulting. We do not rate your acting but hey you look good. EE is not baywatch, I did not vote for her in that award as I would have been even more angry if she won that but not something for her acting so it did not bother me someone else got it.

BK even said in a few interviews you can have the calmer classier women like Ronnie and Amira or the feisty chav ones like Kat and Bianca. And went on to say he knows what he prefers. He turned that show into something plot driven and tacky. I was never a rack fan anyway but when he got Sam pregnant and made Ronnie look like a bunny boiler that they had her on a downward spiral. She was fast becoming a plot device for a sensationalist story with no character driven qualities.
He knew he was writing Kat like a complete bitch so they made her the victim to gain some sympathy from the backlash of people who knew he had ruined Kat. And they did it at Ronnie's expense. And what did he gain from it anyway? We lost Ronnie and 99% of people can not stand modern Kat. Well done there. Seriously pissed me off. And if Jack gets anyone pregnant or is Kat's shagger bloody well axe him as well. And I have warmed to him post rack with his family.

BIB - What irritates me the most these days, is that this whole baby swap was about the babies. Tommy survived and James died. For what?
Tommy is rarely seen, spoken of. Who is looking after him while Kat gets her leg over? I would assume it's Mo, but do you remember the conversation between Ronnie and Kat?
Ronnie said: "Do you know what these are? (meaning their bumps) These are our second chances." And Kat agreed.
Now I know babies can't be on set all the time, but the way Kat was banging on, you would expect her to at least talk more about him, make her life seem like it revolves around him.
She said to Ronnie (I think) that she couldn't let Tommy out of her sight blah blah blah due to what she did. She was so traumatised she's having an affair.

All I see right now, is a spoilt middle aged woman who couldn't care less about her family. Not many men would stand by his wife for sleeping with his cousin and bring up her son as his own.
So it infuriates me that the lack of continuity makes the whole storyline an absolute waste.
EE messed up IMO but they could have worked hard on the aftermath - not make Kat all about that, but subtle hints here and there.
