Hi - sorry to sound like such a girl - but I just went out and bought a new Logik 26inch tv with an inbuilt dvd player - great picture when playing dvds really pleased with it - but have it hooked up to my sky pus box and the picture is not so great - looks a little blurry and have a bit of picture break up - think it maybe my scart lead going into the tv as it feels a bit loose - do you think thats possible?

First check your settings on the Sky box, the Video Ouput settings under Picture settings should be set to RGB. Then on the Sky box check that the scart lead is plugged into the scart socket marked TV (and not VCR). Try and make sure the scart lead is firmly pushed home either end and he cable is not pulling to on side. If still no joy try reversing the scart lead i.e take the Sky box end and put it int the TV and vice versa.

If your TV has two SCART's try the other one, only one will probably have RGB.

Hello Nigel - it only has one scart socket on the tv - am beginning to think maybe the scart socket is faulty - have switched the lead around but it is all loose - I only get a sky reception if I pull it out a bit - oh Lord - not impressed if I have to lug it back to Currys!

Does your Sky box have two scarts?. Most do, but only one (the one designed to connect it to the TV) will output RGB. If you look at the back of the scart box the relevent scart socket will be marked either TV, have a picture of a TV, or be marked as AV1/scart 1 or something similar.

You also might need to go into the TV's menu system and set the scart input to accept RGB.

I've just had a thought - and I fear I am going to regret asking this as I am going to look like a fool - should I even be using the scart lead - should I be looking at using the coloured wires they give you and plugging those in the tv and into the sky box? Is that what they are for?

Short answer no. You should be getting a decent and best picture through the scart lead. I also assume there are no other cables connected between the Sky box and the TV?

Having done all the things suggested and still no joy, I would try and borrow another scart lead just to to try. If the results are still the same then it is likely that the TV scart input may be at fault.

Hi Soulboy - thanks for that - was not looking forward to having to worry about coloured cables!
Yes will try and borrow a scart lead tomorrow - fear it is the scart socket itself though as I did swap the cables around and its still loose when its plugged into the tv - what a total pain in the butt eh!

The video output setting on the Sky box menu can be changed from PAL to RGB by using the left and right keys.
This will improve the quality from the output marked - "TV Scart".

The output labelled "VCR scart" will not change as it does not output RGB

The TV may also need the SCART mode "setting" - so if you make a change on the SCART output of the Sky box, check the TV's menus to make sure it's the same (not all TVs do this automatically).

Hope that makes sense.
