the dot with cancer storyline! its going on every episode, more doom and gloom. and whats with chrissie and den again? they are going around in circles with this storyline i feel. and last nights episode i cant see myself why everyone enjoyed it! to me it was even boring then if they had featured more characters!

Do you think Cancer goes away as quick as that it is one of the best storys going in soap at the moment..

You are right,
It sickens me, the way, the soaps give their actors a miracle cure, for whatever cancer they get!
I hope that the Dot story is not like the others, I'd like to see her, experience the whole process,
and I hope that emmerdale do the same!!!! with Diane and the bowel cancer - it killed a family member of mine, but he fought it for years!!!
Cancer plots need to be realistic!!!

however i did notice that corrie's Sunita seems to have made a miraculous recovery, considering she'd had her brain operated on!
she lost no hair, she has no scar, and she was fit and healthy to do stuff in her flat!

People who have been through major surgery - do not recover that quick!!!!

if you are going to do a major health scare, then they must get it right!!!

even if it means that the story will drag on for months!!
the reality of cancer must be shown!!!!!

she still had surgery on her brain!!! - that would make you lethargic for days!
I didn't mention that sunita had cancer, I just said she had major surgery!

When you are operated on, they need for hygiene purposes to remove by shaving, - her hair!!!

actually she could recver pretty quickly from the surgery she had. key hope surgery, regardless of where it is, is generally quite a minor operation and it is likely that in a couple of days she would be right as rain!

yes, exactly a couple of days, not hours!

I remember when they did Alma's cancer and the realism that they portrayed on screen was amazing, its just a shame that some viewers hate the cancer storys, as they drag on!
If they actually knew people that had suffered with it, and had died, then maybe they wouldn't be so flippant about it!
like I posted before, it would be nice to see them (for a change) to show the ups and downs of a person suffering with cancer, in whatever form it takes!

Sunita did NOT have her brain operated on. She had an ANEURISM - this was dealt with by a tube being fed into her vein and blowing the blockage away. The tumour is being treated by some kind of drugs, apparently. None of this involves chemotherapy or major surgery.

I agree with the rest of your post. Now you have cancer/now you don't seems to be a theme in the soaps at the moment. Very disappointing. Like you, I hope that Emmerdale and Eastenders deal with it properly.

She did NOT have major surgery and you don't need your bloody head shaved for hygiene purposes.

i agree wholeheartedly, as a cancer care nurse myself. what i see the patients and their families go through is heartbreaking, and i would like mroe soaps to reflect this. its such a sensitive issue, but with proper research, storylines such as dots really are superb!

But they didn't operate on her head. They fed the tube up through her groin.

what was the exact procedure?

and i realise they didnt operate on her head, but i was just responding to the fact that early bird said it was for hygiene reasons when it isnt

didn't actually see the sunita hospital episodes, as I was holiday, i last saw it, before she went to hospital for tests, and i've only read, what has been posted before, so sorry for the mix up!

but back to the topic in question!

All soaps have at some point skirted round the issue of cancer, like they want to broach the subject, but are afraid of it at the same time!

If they are going to do a cancer plot, then they must follow it all the way through to its end - whatever that maybe!

I like Dianes character in Emmerdale, but if this story, means that she'll have to die as a result, then so be it! and the same goes for dot, in EE.

The procedure the surgeon described to Sunita was threading a catheter from an artery in the leg up to the aneurism, and under x-ray guidance placing a metal coil into the aneurism. After applying an electric current, the blood in the aneurism clots and fills the aneurism.

The one cancer storyline I remember was Almas, I felt that was doen very well and when she eventually died in her bed I felt quite upset.

What does everyone think of all cancer storylines different soaps have done, it be nice to hear different opinions on them.

So we've got Dots, Dianes, Almas and i can't think of anymore.

Did peggy in enders have cancer?

yep! Breast cancer, she went onto have a mastectomy (sp?),
