It seems like Laura has written her next album already. She is currently doing a mini tour in the US where she is playing the new songs. Unlike in previous years, she's asking people not to film/record them yet. Reports are that the album is called "Semper Femina". More info in this new interview:

I reckon it's going to be very good .

This lady never stops writing, does she?

I was listening to "Once I Was An Eagle" yesterday in my car.

In this (amusing and sweet) post by a fan who recently heard the new songs and met Laura afterwards, she said it would be a March release:

That would be good going if it was March. Laura has recorded 2 other albums in the past that she didn't go on to release but she seems very happy with this new one which has got to be a good sign.

I've just ordered "Short Movie". It's the only LM album I don't have. Hopefully it will arrive tomorrow.

That's lovely. She's always struck me as a shy person so it surprises me that she meets fans outside after the show.

I didn't realise that there were two other unreleased albums.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall during the creative process. She fascinates me. It would be interesting to see whether she writes really quickly or whether she agonises over her music.

Her creative process is interesting and somewhat unusual I think. Laura has explained how she writes songs in interviews and from what she has said it's the opposite of agonising over it. The ideas swirl around in her head and then a song comes together all at once (music and lyrics) when it's ready to, almost like a stream of consciousness type thing. She doesn't try to force it as sitting down to purposefully write a song doesn't work for her. Also, she has said she never edits the songs afterwards (some lyrics have changed but I guess she means the fundamental composition/melody of the song). Maybe this explains why she is so prolific and also why she has abandoned some songs/albums (choosing to start again rather than editing/reworking songs).

Laura recorded an album quite quickly after I Speak Because I Can but decided not to release it as she thought it was too similar/covering the same ground as that album. She also recorded an album after Once I Was An Eagle but didn't release it as she realised it was quite boring and uninspired. This is what led her to take a break from music as she was lacking inspiration and felt she needed to do other things/experience life after doing album-tour-album-tour since she was 16. She got her mojo back and then wrote Short Movie.

Despite saying she would take longer between albums in future, the 6th one seems to be written already. I think this is because she is not totally happy with Short Movie (she's hinted at this in recent interviews) and because she is just in a good place creatively and with her music in general at the moment.

^ she's a class act. She's wonderful

Do we know whether Is A Hope (Drinking Alone) was on the album between "I Speak..." and "Creature..." ? It's always been one of my favourite unreleased ones.

The track listings for the unreleased albums haven't been revealed so we don't know but I think it probably was. Another song from that same time period, "To Be A Woman" was released later as a b-side so it's a shame that never happened with "Is A Hope/Drinking Alone". I know many fans would like to hear the full recorded version of that song.

I was only aware of that one because it was used in Skins so a full version exists she's just never made it available.

Top fifty albums of the years in Mojo; Not a sign of Short Movie. Unusual for a magazine that's championed her stuff from the start....

Laura supporting Neil Young during his tour in June. Should be amazing gigs, and proof if any were needed of how high regard, musicians of calibre hold her. Neil Young seems to hate everything released after 1962.

Laura has supported Neil Young before in June 2009 but not on the same scale. 4 arenas back to back will be quite big shows for her. It must be quite cool for her dad to see the daughter he taught to play guitar with Neil Young songs go on to support him on tour.

Laura's sixth album shouldn't be far off. At a recent charity gig for the floods in Hebden Bridge, Laura apparently said the album was done and coming soon. Also, she is playing in South America in April so we may hear something about the album before then.

Spot on as ever in Leeds. She came very, very close to eclipsing Neil Young. And he was so good, that's as high a compliment as I can give.
No hint of a new album coming out, except for a few 'newies', A Woman Alone Is Not A Woman Undone was played, which I believe isn't actually that new. Very good band with her too.

This months mojo has the highlights for the next months reviews section. No mention of a new album from Laura, sadly....

Very nice. Just the right side of bare-boned and that voice can still summon the angels.
