I have never had a mobile phone
Andy Birkenhead

...but I'm (reluctantly) thinking of getting one for emergency purposes only.
I DON'T want a camera, I don't want the internet.
I just want to make and receive phone calls.
What is the cheapest option open to me ?

50p handset from a car boot.

£1 sim card from a supermarket.

Be aware, if you don't use the mobile for several months many phone companies will disconnect you even if you still have credit which sort of defeats having it for emergency use only.

you don't really want a mobile phone, they are a pain in the neck, because once people know you got one they expect it to be on 24 hours a flipping day.

You should hear the hassle i get when i do that,

what is the point in having a mobile phone if it is turned of I am told. the only time people accept it is off is when I am at work.

People should realise that sometimes I want to be out of touch

You are not the only one...I have never had a mobile either. I don't have a car; if I did I would get a mobile in case of breakdown but I doubt if I would ever use one apart from that. Do you gather that I haven't got many friends:yawn:

Get a cheap Nokia, Pay as you Go. Easy to use and no one is going to steal it. Easy to use and reliable and robust.

Check with your mates to see if any of them are upgrading and wanna get rid of their old one. Then just get a payg simcard for it.

I recenly passed one of my old phones to a pal who dropped hers in the bath.
