Hi,

I have just had a demo of the Philips 32PW9616 TV and it was very impressive.

Any thoughts on the TV? It has Dolby Digital / 100Hz / Cordless rear speakers

It has been voted as a best buy by many mags and was the EISA TV of the year.

ps. No - I don't work for Philips!!!

The other TV's I was considering were an Hitachi C36WF830N", a Panasonic TX36PB50" and a Toshiba 36ZP18P"

The Panasonic is a nice set - I like it but one reveiw I read said that the Surround sound was "poor" for the price. I was told that the build quaility and relaibility of Tosiba is suspect (and this is bourne out by a VCR I bought last year that has started to play-up. The Hitachi is a nice set but I believe that I need to buy "active Speakers" as the rear-out is only pre-out and not a speaker-out.

The sales guy told me that, on balance, the Philips was the beter set and the picture on the Hitachi is not "top rate". I know the others are 36" sets but the Philips is so nice I think I might forgo the extra 4" - As the actress said to the bishop!!

Cheers,

Paul

I've had nothing but trouble from the last two Hitachi products I bought - I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy - That's all I'm going to say.

Thanks for that...... Anyone else got any thoughts on the matter? My mind is still telling me that the Philips is the best bet but I am tempted by the Panny.

Cheers.

Hi,

and another thing...... I have read elsewhere (www.avforums.com) that the rear speakers can be prone to a bit of buzzing and hissing. Any experience of this?

By the way. On the above forum under Television there are some really good threads on the Toshiba. Well worth a read.

Cheers.

If you want quality combined with longevity, value for money combined with sheer good looks, you will find Sony very hard to beat. Look at what the professionals use - always a good indicator I think. Second option would be Panasonic, third option? there isn't a third option.

Hi Faust,

I didn't really consider the Sony because, as far as I know, they do not do a 32" with their latest tube and Dolby Digital (only pro-logic).

I may well be wrong so please let me know if there is one.

Cheers,

Paul

Just bought a 32in Sony Tinitron with virtual dolby. Absolutely brilliant.

Considered the phillips first but heard from someone who had bought one. They said it was crap.

By the way, anyone with a Costco store in their city...go there. The set i bought was nearly £200.00 cheaper than in the high street. Also, a 3 year onsite warranty included. Brilliant value!!

Isn't it best to have an amp doing the sound rather than the TV? Even a high end Sony isn't going to sound as good as a proper DD amp and speaker setup.

Anyway, what do I know I got a Beko TV!

What's the Sony model number, and is it 50 or 100Hz. Will add to my list of T.V.'s to view once I have been cured of this infernal pain in my cheque book arm. Doctors don't seem to have a clue what's causing the pain though.
