Sent them an email last night andthey have replied. i am in the last month of my contract but their reply has confused me abit.
I've highlighted the confusing parts.
I thought this was my last month. why do i have to pay them £9.76 if i cancel before 08/09/2011.
And i thought i have received my final bill which i paid on 29th july.

Thank you for writing to the Vodafone Customer Services. I understand your concern regarding the cancellation.

Vodafone endeavors to provide the highest possible level of service to all of our customers. I would be glad to assist you in this matter.

We have received your request for cancellation of the number 07!!!!!!!!!. I understand that you also wish to retain this number with another service provider.

You are currently within your contract period with Vodafone. Your contract end date is 08/09/2011. If you wish to terminate the services before the contract end date then an early termination fee (ETF) will be applicable on the account. The ETF is £9.76 as of today. This amount is just the line rental till the contract end date and is calculated on a pro rata basis. This amount will be added to your final bill.

To retain this number with the other service provider you will need a PAC (Porting authorization code) from us. I have processed your request for a PAC. Details of the PAC are as mentioned:

· The PAC for your number is: !!!!!!!!!! and will expire on: 15/09/20

Just use the PAC code after the 8th of September and there will be no charge...It's just a charge for the remaining 3 weeks or so on your contract until then. once you use the PAC and the number is transferred your account will be closed....

Isnt line rental paid in advance, surely in that case there should be nothing left to pay now?

When you request your PAC, you are giving 30 days notice, so if you port out 2 days after getting your PAC, you'll be charged a fee of 28 days line rental on your final bill.
