My hands are in a terrible condition, I'm sure they look about 20 years older than the rest of me. Can anyone recommend a very good, intensive hand cream, I've tried that Norwegian Formula one, although this is good it's still not good enough.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Mine used to be terrible- dry, flaky, cracked and sore. I've tried loads of different creams and the best by far IMO is "Boots Expert" concentrated hand cream. It's absolutely brilliant! It's about £3 for a smallish tube but it lasts ages because you only need to use a tiny amount. (when I remember) I put it on every night and it has really, really helped.

Why can't we use normal body cream for our hands?

You can. If its safe to use on the skin of your body, slap it on your hands. It may be more slippery though.

Op, I recommend Nulon Q10 Nourishing complex hand cream.

Its only 99p and a whizz on all things dry. It also brightens up my nails and makes them grow like billy-o. Sinks in lovely too.

Thanks for your response, I'm relieved to see they're cheap ones, I expected a load of peeps telling me to get the latest creme de la mer stuff for £200 or the such like. Forever, body cream is not intensive enough, the skin on our hands (well mine anyway) is a bit harder wearing. I'll try both suggestions as they're gonna cost less than a fiver. Morecowbell, where will I find this Nulon Q10 stuff.

I use Atrixo Intensive (the big green tub) think its about £5 or I use Crabtree and Evelyn Gardeners Hand Cream slightly more expensive at £18 for a 250g bottle but it lasts a long time (I had a bottle put it on morning and night and it lasted a year) and it works. I used to use Smitten from Lush but they stopped selling it in their shops and I occassionally get the Helping Hands cream from them.

I get really dry hands and sometimes I have to use hand balm as the skin on my fingers chaps and splits and no cream works but the balm I used to use from Virgin Vie they have discontinued so I need to find another.

I use L'Occitane shea butter hand cream. It's quite pricey but lasts a long time and works a treat on my hands.

I like the Dove visible difference hand cream. The Dove range is on half price at Sainsburys just now too

A few times a week, I use the Soap & Glory Hand Food - slap it on and then put a pair of moisturising gloves on while I watch the TV. Think it's about £7 for the large tube and it lasts ages. They do a trial size too.

I agree with Cha Cha Heels, L'Occitane hand cream is excellent. It may be on the expensive side but lasts for ages as you need very little.

Also, once or twice a week, give yourself an exfoliating treatment. Mix 1 tablespoon olive oil and half tsp sugar together in a dish, microwave for a few seconds making sure it doesn't get too hot. Massage the mixture well into your hands for a couple of minutes and then rinse off with tepid water after 5 - 10 minutes. Your hands will feel like silk!

Waitrose baby bottom butter! £2.83 for a tub of it. It is fantastic in my opinion, i've been using it on my face & hands. sounds bizarre but check this out....

I concur. I stayed in a hotel once and they had the bathroom stocked with this stuff (hand cream, shower gel and so on) Really nice. I bought loads of the stuff when I got home. Expensive but worth it.

Prevention is better than cure. Always wear marigolds for chores and washing up. When you wash your hands, pat them dry with a towel instead of rubbing them. Also the backs of your hands get the driest but they aren't normally dirty. When you wash your hands, only wash the palms and fingers.

I really suffer with cracked, dry skin on my hands too. I love The Body Shop's Hemp hand protector. I think it's about £10 for a 100ml tube but it lasts for ages and they often have it on special offer (half price) so I always stock up then.

It smells wonderful, isn't at all greasy and is by far the best hand cream I've ever used - believe me, I've tried a LOT!

My eldest son swears by it too - the skin on his poor hands is so bad that it often cracks and bleeds but this stuff sorts him out within a couple of days.

Aye, Soap and Glory Hand Food. I have to wash my hands constantly in work and they really suffer. I've tried nearly every cream on the market and I love it.

I agree with both these fms and alternate between these 2 products. I used to get horribly cracked skin on my knuckles - a thing of the past now.

A couple of years ago I had a bout of contact dermatitis. The only thing that gave any relief from the soreness and itching was a corticosteroid cream, but that dried my skin out to such an extent that my palms cracked and peeled.

After doing some research on the web I found that a lot of people recommended Simple intensive hand cream, so I gave it a go. Wonderful stuff, so I've continued to use it as my everyday hand cream.

I agree with this! I've been using it on my hands and face and they've never felt better!

Another vote for L'Occitane Shea butter, I use both the hand and foot cream and it is truly excellent.

Nivea cream http://www.superdrug.com/moisturiser...07571/&bklist= and almond oil are perfect moisturisers without the stickyness others leave behind, I have been using them for years. I agree with poster prevention is best cure, wash and dry hands thoroughly, don't touch harsh chemicals as you could get allergy.

Udderly Smooth - the most non greasy one I have ever used. It's imported from the US but easy to get of here, now.

I don't normally use any skin care products containing synthetic chemicals, but use this when cycling and when doing crafts etc as it sinks right in.

Also, just tested this out last week and absolutely LOVED it, Neal's Yard's Bee Lovely. Probably the nicest hand cream I have ever tried.

Dr Hauschka is also great. Have used it for years but am about to switch to the Neal's Yard when I run out.

Flexitol hand balm is the best I have used and Flexitol heel balm is great as well.
