use by dates after cooking
So here's the problem. Last night I realized that a pack of sausages I had in my fridge had a use by date of that very same day. I managed to grill them with just minutes to spare before the clock struck midnight (when they would obviously turn into either pumpkins or some toxic substance), but I was unable to eat them all. So now I have these grilled sausages that are technically past their use by date, but I'm wondering, would grilling them have extended the magic that keeps them fresh and eatable? If so, how long?

The use by date on such things as raw sausages is set quite short as the makers can't predict how the product will be kept after sale. It could have survived a 2 hour trip home from the supermarket on a hot day. The fridge might not be set at a low enough temperature, etc.
So, assuming that few harmful bacteria have grown on your sausages before being cooked thouroughly - and destroying them, they should be fine for three or four days. |

Raw sausages usually keep a few days past the sell by date anyway.
