I think it was a reference to the dating show that was rumoured. The Daily Shite named John as being on the wish list as a contestant for it and it was due to start filming in August. Don't think it was anything particularly sinister.

That is what I thought they meant, but as you say probably rubbish, I cannot see John doing a programme like that.
