Ho did these two amazing characters enter Coronation Street? Did they enter together, where they married from the start??
Im really curious as to how they started on the soap. |

), but as far as I remember, Vera bascially arrived as one of the workers at Mike's factory, Baldwin Casuals - Ivy's best mate. She's always been married to Jack, but he definately has had affairs, one with Bet Lynch if I remember rightly. He also signed up with a dating agency, under an assumed name, which escapes me at the mo. Sorry to be so vague, but I don't have Benc's depth of knowledge. The actor, Bill Tarmy has played several small roles in the Street before arriving full time as Jack.

Have a look here
http://www.corrie.net/profiles/chara...orth_vera.html that will tell you all. Jack was always trying to have it off with someone else (like Bet) but I don't know how far he got with her. There was also the incident when he called himself Vince Sinclair (or similar) and put himself up as an 'escort', Vera found out of course, and his 'date' turned out to be ... Vera. |

Thanks everyone.
I have seen clips of when Vera ended up being Jack's date from the dating agency and thats why it has always confused me whether in the soap they had always been married or not. |

Oh I see Safra - that would be confusing!
But she found out what he was up to, and rang him to arrange the date using a different name (and voice) so the comedy came from him expecting some leggy blonde, and turning round to find V

I think what actually happened was that Bet pressed Vera into setting up a date with "Vince" rather than Vera knowing straight away. Vera assumed the name "Carole Monroe" to meet her "Vince St Clair", and wore a red wig. The date was set for the Rovers and ended with Vera chasing Jack back home in embarassment.
Corrie Fact : The lady from the "Bill & Coo Dating Agency" was played by Shirley Stelfox, now Emmerdale's Edna Birch. I think the Duckworths most notable "affair" was when Jack got with Bet in 1982. He managed to talk her into an seeing him, even though Bet began to feel very worthless at being the plaything of a married man. Bet kind of got her own back when Vera told her that she was seeing a man behind Jack's back - called Vic. Vera decided to use Bet as her alibi when she went to see Vic, and of course Jack soon worked out that this was a lie - because he was with Bet at the time! |
