Upgrading on Orange?
Hi everyone,
Just wanted your advice on my situation: I've been on an Orange contract for 13 months now, it's a Sim-Only "Canary 20" contract with the following: 600 minutes Unlimited Texts The contract is supposed to be £20 a month, however I have frequently spent more than this (mostly on data charges), my bills are averaging around £25 a month. I'm really interested in getting a new phone, preferably the HTC Desire S- however I'm not sure what chance I have at getting an upgrade? I've heard many stories of people calling a certain number and negotiating a really good deal, but I've no idea how to go about this. It's essential that I keep my number and the best case scenario would be to get the following for £20 a month: HTC Desire S for free 600 minutes Unlimited Texts Internet Allowance The people on this forum are always fantastic at giving advice on what to do- so if anyone could give me advice as to whether this is realistic, and how to go about getting an upgrade then I'd be really grateful, I'm quite new to the whole "changing contracts" business so any tips would be helpful!

Just call 150 from your orange handset and ask for an upgrade. I'd suggest Dolphin 20. 250 meg of internet along with unlimited texts and 200 mins any network minutes. Plus if you have friends and family on orange, you can have them as magic numbers and you don't use up any free minutes calling them. You should already have a few magic numbers after a 13 month contract.
It all depends how long your original contract was. If its a 24 month contract, you'll have to wait another 5 months to upgrade your phone, but there's not a problem swapping plans now. I did it after 6 months, as I was using up my free minutes, then I had extra magic numbers and could drop back down. Call them, you can always say no to what they say, but ask about swapping texts for extra free minutes if you really need 600 |

Really can't add anything to add but say you can find a deal somewhere else and they should put you through to a negotiator who will offer you a great deal if you stay.
I attempted to upgrade via the Orange website and my options were severely limited eg my best option given was a San Fransisco. I wasnt happy with this (really wanted the Desire) so phoned them up and told them I was going. Hey presto put me through to someone and received a Desire S the next day. Its well worth it. |

Thanks for your advice- the problem is, my contract is a rolling 30 day one, so I'm not actually sure at what point I'm allowed to upgrade, if at all!

Oh I get you. If you log into the Orange website with your number and a password you specified (unless you haven't registered on the site yet), it may tell you when you can upgrade.

I don't think you qualify for an upgrade on a rolling contract. But as others have said, call orange and they'll advise what they can do for you

That's what I did too Hardeep. I was adamant I was going to leave Orange after what that blasted Orange shop website told me. The inference was that I was such a poor customer that the best they would give me for free is a San Fransisco (which isn't bad actually) when I wanted a Desire without having to fork out 150 quid up front. The guy in retentions told me the orange website is really just for reference only and in most cases should be ignored.
