I don't see the connection betwen Anna Calvi and the other 3 artists you mention. I think her debut album was interesting but not great, and she sounds like she really has a serious talent as a guitarist. But it's too early to judge her on one album. I think she is very unlikely to win the MMP at this stage of her career, but stranger things have happened there.

I hope PJ Harvey wins it, but in all probablility Adele will.carry it off.

She feels like a female Jeff Buckley on some songs to me!... I love the album too!... "Suzanne & I" is probably my favourite track from her plus she is a stellar guitarist!

This song in particular i meant, listen to bruce springsteen's born in the usa and then desire almost identical drums, and her songs have a similar grand scale to them

David Bowie- she is very theatrical in the staging of her songs his album diamond dogs in particular, she also cites both as influences upon the album

...probably not kate bush though. Also more than often its debut albums that win the mercury music prize arctic monkeys, speech debelle, klaxons, xx, franz ferdinand etc
