This Italian detective drama will this week fill the Saturday night Euro-Crime slot

The guy standing next to the pillar in that pic puts me in mind of Troels Hartman from The Killing

Is this Insp Monti a self contained ep or is it part 1 of 2? Because there is no Euro subbed crime drama on the week after.

It's just a single episode. The reason the site says episode 1 of 2 is because as far as I know BBC4 only has the rights to show 2 episodes of IM

Cheers Verence. I watched the Italian Noir documentary again last week to get me in the right frame of mind for IM. I wonder if this means BBC4 is done with Saturday Night Euro Subbed Drama for good after this. Or if it is a temporary pause. With TK2 starting the slot up again???

DigiGuide has a double bill of Spiral on 3rd September from 9pm. No details of which season though. Season 3 repeat?

I don't know-I'm a newbie as well. KennyT rates it highly, so that's good enough for me to give it a try.

So we've had watchable dramas from France, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland and now Italy. (I've probably missed a few).

What's next?

Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, or maybe Slovenia?

The BBC will be running out of countries soon.

I'm hoping the BBC snap up Pod Prikritie.

It does depend on which Season of Spiral they are repeating. The first two seasons had 8 episodes each and the third had twelve. If we assume that once the repeats of Spiral have finished they will start Season 2 of The Killing that gives us two possible dates

If they are repeating Spiral 1 or 2 then TK2 could be starting on Oct. 1st whereas if they are repeating Spiral 3 then TK2 might not start until Oct. 15th

I wouldn't recommend much of Spain's scripted output, but I will most defintiely recommend Crematorio, a crime thriller which is the first Quality crime piece made in Spain in recent times (there have been a few good pieces pre80s) and which is also the first ever drama produced by Spain's Pay TV net Canal Plus!

Other Spanish scripted Crime pieces I would recommend are:

Motivos Personales (Personal Motives) 26 eps

Cuenta Atras (Countdown) (29 eps)
Which had aired across numerous Euro TV stations and enjoyed great success

And launching in Spain this September is an ambitious new 13 part crime drama called Homicidios (Homicides) which is meant to up the standard in Spanish crime drama on TV.

A true Spanish classic is Brigada central (26 eps) but having been made between 1989 and 92 unfortunately it looks VERY dated, especially conosidering the low standards Spanish TV dramas had at the time, which is a great shame, cos the stories are brilliant!

Personally, I am hoping for some Eastern European serials, or some German ones - I like german crime shows. Spanish TV has had a fair few running successfully the last few years.

I'm surprised they haven't had anything from Germany

And if they are repeating all 3 seasons of Spiral then that would put TK2 back to December??? Worst case scenario.

It might be Spiral I. DigiGuide has the actor who played Pierre's friend Benoît Faye listed. Very tentative info at the moment though.

I think the mini series of 'Das Boot' got shown on BBC 2 a few years ago.

I think that BBC4 have shown an episode of 'Inspector Montalbano' before. Only a few months ago. I don't know if this is the same one.

According to the dedicated BBC4 website, Excursion to Tindari was last shown on Sun 14 Dec 2008. Montalbano's Croquettes was last shown on Mon 27 Dec 2010

I watched Inspector mMontalbano last time they were on.

Very different to The killing and Wallander, but really enjoyed it. The glorious sea and wonderful food adds a little extra to it.

I've gone on to read most of the books now.

Did you watch the Italian Noir doc. last week? Andrea Camilleri was interviewed and he mentioned how much Montalbano enjoys his food and takes interest in how it is prepared. He was talking about the novels of course. Does this come across in the TV adaptations?

Well I hope it's a repeat of 1 or 2 as I haven't seen either.

Have downloaded the Italian Noir doc off the iplayer but it's repeated again next Tuesday at 23:00.

You'll get to see the real Laure, before she went a bit loopy in S3

Must stress again this is tentative at the moment. RadioTimes.com don't go that far forward. So it will be a few days before the schedules for that Saturday appear on there.

Highly recommend it. Goes into detail why Italian crime fiction is so different from say British/American authors.

Cool - it certainly looks interesting. Looking forward to the one about Scandi crime fiction on Sunday night too.
