Livia annoys me - is she going to wait for IM forever? She got very attached to that child too didn't she!

I think the plots could be wrapped up a bit more quickly - they seem to like chatting quite a lot. As KennyT says, it was better this week though - I preferred the storyline anyway.

Nor me.

Despite my reservations I found it not as bad as expected last week, so I decided to watch it again this week. But I can only assume that something got lost in the editing because we were not told why Or am I missing something.

Not sure why we're using spoilers but I'll carry on...


There were other loose ends though - for example, why was the bathrobe discarded by the victim but not removed by the murderer along with all the other clothes?

I really enjoyed this one , far better than last week's. I'm even warming to the comic policeman who passed the IT course.

At some stage IM will have to get back with Flavia, but why does she live so far away.

Well, I started it because I thought it was a normal courtesy to those who haven't seen it yet.

There remains the burning question though: why did the chicken cross the road?

If the Italian have the same riddle, that was a good visual gag.

Well I did see what looked like something squashed back on the road in the long shot afterwards. Or that might have been the director going for realism (visually, obviously not plot-wise).

Usually they have a disclaimer at the end of programmes like this: "No chickens were harmed in the making of this programme".

I thought he had a key ring with lots of keys on it and he was working through them until he found one that fit. Perhaps it was a lot of master keys for that type of padlock.

was Livia's dialogue dubbed into Italian?
Yes it was. I could see that what she was saying didn't match the italian I could hear, but I also couldn't be sure it matched the subtitles. seemed it did.
Was Montalbano speaking to her in Italian, and she was replying in English?
I don't know their history, so don't know where the little boy comes into it. I missed last weeks, so don't know if it was covered off there.
I also can't tell if this is set before or after the two episodes that BBC have shown repeatedly over the last few years.

For the record, I like it. I love the characters, and that's enough for me to buy into it.

The little boy was in last week's episode. His mother was being persued by some gang and she told him to run away for his safety. He was found by Salvo stealing food from other boys , hence the title " Snack Thief" He and Livia took him in for a few days before sending him to the policeman's sister ( I think) for, again his own safety. In the few days they had Livia took a shine to him and wanted to adopt him , but he is now settled with the new family . His mother was later found murdered.

I cannot understand how actors can speak different languages to each other in the same scene. It must make it very difficult for them to work out when to say their lines!

IM's phone call in the car - where he tells the Judge they've already been there and seen the body and asks for a full forensics team & coroner.

I've still got to catch up on the last hour or so of this sometime.

I enjoyed this ep more than the first - though it does feel like I'm watching Ross Kemp talking Italian for an hour and three quarters.

It's light hearted stuff and completely bonkers. What idiot thinks it makes more sense to murder your lover just to take her violin - instead of staging a minor burglary and stealing it?

I thought that the point of getting the old woman to make an anonymous phone call, was to hide the fact that he had already discovered the body, when he broke in.

Yes it was, and also to nudge his superiors towards giving him the case, but anyone in the car with him on the trip down would have worked out he'd already been there because of the phone call he made to the judge en route.

Not that his fellow detectives seem a particularly bright lot so it still might have escaped one or three of them

He's much more attractive than Kemp IMO. I kind of see the similarity though.

If your finding inspector montalbano a little disappointing since the killing & borgen then if you havent seen romanzo criminale then i would highly recommend this, its currently being repeated on sky arts, think sopranos but better & more realistic, & makes inspector montalbano look like tom&jerry, iv just purchased series 2 from amazon £29 with english subtitles unfortunately series 1 dvd has no english subtitles which is very strange but if you know were to look series 1 can be found on the internet i just had to translate the subtitles myself i also had to do this with braquo series 2 as i just couldnt wait for it to be aired on british tv
