Got to laugh at the fact MB didn't call the paramedics to give a member of the public the once over after she had been flippin' knocked down by a car! Instead he waits about an hour, then just calls the doc once she's hobbling about looking for all the world like she's about to collapse.

Oh and the parrot singing a communist song!

And I see from the posts above that Livia won't be in it anymore - he's still referring to her as his girlfriend though.”

Didn't have MentalBaldo down as a tree-hugger

I didn't find it that dark to be honest.

I'm finally up to date with MentalBaldo ready for the finale this Saturday.

Given the way he walks, shouldn't he really be

MentalBandyBaldo?

MentalBandyBaldo?”

That's just daft. We'd be getting into Young Ones handy-bendy-Ghandi territory then.

Yes, he puts me in mind of Manuel Garrincha, the late Brazilian footballer.

Fair point.

I think my earlier post shows how much these Euro dramas have cured me of my past squeamishness.

Yes , i remember him, didn't he have polio, but despite that he was one of the world's greatest players. There were a few athlethes of that era who had polio but managed to get gold medals and the like. A New Zealand runner and an Indian cricketer called Chandrasheskar who functioned on one arm

Yes, he was born disabled but was able to walk after an operation.

Oh that is brilliant news - I will really look forward to cosying up on the sofa on winter nights to watch more IM.

Did the article say if it would be new episodes?

Mentalbaldo -

Catarella is very funny in the books and I think they've cast the part really well as he is just like I imagined him.

Although IB seems lighthearted, I actually think it's hard to mix humour with darker themes so it's quite an achievement in this case. I started reading the books after reading Donna Leon's books which are set in Italk (Venice) but have no humour at all so I was a bit WTF at Mentalbaldo at first until I realised it was a different type of detective story.

It just says it will be back in the winter but I'm assuming it will be "new" episodes

“When BBC4 was showing The Killing and Wallander, RT’s pages were full of letters praising them but so far I haven’t read anything about Inspector Mentalbaldo. Blah, blah, blah...sun, scenery. gorgeous eyes...blah, blah....Keep your dour Lund and bleak Danish scenery. I want Sicily, red wine and more Mentalbaldo!”

Radio Times Letters page

A typical reader I feel and one who seems to have answered her own question.

The use of "MentalBaldo" implies that's a DS FM!

I think I might dip into one or two of the books this Summer. MentalBaldo definately IS different.

Nearly time to see a temporary goodbye to Mentalbaldo. I will miss him and his bandy legs! At least it'll be back in the winter. It looks like tonight's ep is one of the shorter hour and a half(ish) ones - funny how they're different lengths.

I expect there will be an extended trailer for The Bridge after tonight's Mentalbaldo

I only discovered this last week on I player and watched 8 episodes on my iPad. Funny how I still have to put the headphones in, even though it's got subtitles but the Italian is so lyrical and I'm picking Italian up quite rapidly, I'm spotting all the differences in the translations . God I sound like a total saddo, don't I?

Can't wait for new series, but on imdb they seem to have been filmed quite haphazardly, 2 in some series 4 in others

Despite having a crush on Mimi, he did get on my nerves last night. He was being a complete arsehole!

OH and I were cheering on Fazio with Barbara though. Found that really sweet!

Probably dependent upon the frequency with which the author,Andrea Camillieri, published the books/short stories, upon which the films are based.
Hence 22 films between 1999,and 2011.
