According to IMDB a young Livia appears in four of the six episodes”

Ahh, no subtitles, can't say either look like their older counterparts.
Is the young Montie as confusing as old Montie?
Will I need to be timeshifting and pausing again, to make sense of it?

I suppose you have to take into account the passage of time

The only trouble is that according to the pre-publicity Young Montalbano takes place in the early 90s which means that both Mentalbaldo and Catarella seem to have aged alarmingly in about 6 or 7 years as the first episode of Montalbano proper was first shown on RAI in 1999

Is there no thread about the French one off that was on Saturday?

Apparently not - thought it was very good.

Point Blank you mean?
As the other FM says, it was pretty good, as this sort of thing goes.
One thing I did notice, was that our hero had sweat marks down his top as he ran from the bent cops down the subway etc, and the sweat marks got bigger the longer he ran.

How the Criminal paid the Corsicans and Gypsys for all the time they were going to serve creating his multi-crime diversion, I chose to ignore.

I didn't watch the Scandi School film the week before, sounded a bit depressing and I wasn't in the mood.

I'll check carefully to make sure Mentalbandy has bow legs as he did as an adult.

Oh WOW - I'd have missed this!

Thanks very much. I enjoyed the original Inspecter Montalbano series.

Will we see a young Ingrid?

Hope so.

He only met Ingrid in the modern series. I'm still waiting for Livia, though. And Mimi. And Fazio junior.

So the Young Montalbano solves the crime and has another beautiful woman regard him in a positive manner - shall we say.

And woman who played Viola - Valentina D'Agostino - was heartbreakingly beautiful as a woman can be. I guess the female viewers had the Young Montalbano to drool over to balance things up.

Catarella was reassuringly Catarella.

Enjoyable fare.

It is a shame that we won't meet the best female character in the show.

And seeing he is with Mery how does he get together with Livia?

Can our squeaky-clean detective do something out of order?

Presumably over the course of the six episodes he splits up with Mery and meets Livia

Oh and you're right about Young Catarella, Fabrizizo Pizzuto got him just right

A thoroughly enjoyable yarn, and a fair interpretation from the younger Bald One. I was rather happily not moved to get "forensic" about the plot line and just let the story conclude at its own pace and that felt good.

Looking forward to more.

I'm dying to know when he starts to go thin on top.

Maybe that happens as he gets more exasperated at Catarella's mangling of the language

Yes and to develop legs far more bandy than they presently are.
What a joy to have a less "forensick" style police drama, in a pleasant and forever sunny location. Far more watchable, despite the subtitles than some of the sometimes dour and drab "green screen" home-produced efforts we get.

The usual Montalbano, loose ends (Lo Bianco, pictures) and lucky breaks.
Doesn't have the charm of older Montalbano for me.

She was absolutely gorgeous, wasn't she.

I was a bit surprised that they considered justice had been done allowing the pair to be charged with attempted murder but escape the rape charge. I suppose the idea was to keep Viola's reputation intact, and avoid her having to testify ?
Still, the "family" will probably get rid of them before long anyway, they don't like that kind of trouble apparently, it's not good for "business".

Viola - yes she was gorgeous, but she drove me mad with the wandering eyes; I thought they'd find out she was half blind. And as for sticking her derrière out whilst mopping the floor - dear dear!

I enjoyed it immensely, though two hours intense viewing is challenging (you can't take your eyes off the screen due to the subtitles).

Re attempted murder vs. rape - it's the Mafia he was dealing with; he had to make some sort of trade off. He was letting them know he wasn't going to roll over and let them do what he wanted, whilst covering himself by making out it was just a small error he'd made in sending the gun off to forensics.

What I want to know is when does he start shrinking and his legs start to bend so he can't even stop a pig in a passage?

Enjoyed it though

Has Salvo still got the same car? Enjoyed the contrast between the mountains and coast.

The scenery was stunning. If only Mr Sparrow would watch it without scoffing at the Italian posturing and dialogue

Didn't the Mafia "family" that featured in this also turn up in some of the "previous" (for want of a better word) stories??

Yes they did. It seems Camillieri (author of the original books) was involved in the process - it would be interesting to know how much say he had in the scripts. I've seen photos of him taken with the cast.
